framing is 2x8. posts are 4x4 pt. i think he is going to notch a 2x8 mortice similar to all the other posts on the deck, they all- except for the replaced one- have the joint cut and then to the inside- so outside 2x8 is flush with the 4x4. and the inside 2x8 is in the mortice as a tenon

my parents have a small fish pond -with ~15 goldfish(not small goldfish- largest is about 6" or so long )- as a moat around the gazebo...never any algae they eat it. but it is in the shade for part of the day.

This is just for a water feature in the back yard by the seating areas so we can have water noise. I'm going to make a 2 acre pond toward the back of my property at some point. I want to be able to walk out and go fishing.

just be careful lurking...fucking conservation agents/epa might get up in your ass about building one. esp if you use an existing brook/stream to help form it

So what happens if you have to run a pipe or wire or something? Minesweeper attic edition?

There is zero insulation on the exterior walls of my house.

Like why would you do that?
We had the same thing. Our house was built in 1964 and we just gutted our basement because we had termites. Wood paneling on studs, no insulation or anything else. It was crazy. Now I am thinking the rest of the house is exactly the same.

Anyone have advice on getting rid of moles?

I think I've killed at least one or two by baiting the tunnels with the earthworm shaped poison, but without a body it's obviously hard to know for sure. I'm still dealing with some tunnel activity, but I think it's just one now as the quantity of tunnels has greatly diminished. This method is a challenge (and requires a lot of patience) to do correctly since you have to identify an active tunnel where they would be exposed to the bait. They make a ton of tunnels that they only use once.

Are you saying that from experience? Everything I've read from people that seem to know what they're talking about say that's an old wives tale. Moles mostly eat earth worms and roots.

In my last home I had moles up the wazoo and someone suggested I try this. I aggressively treated for grubs for a whole year and the moles disappeared. I also put out some of the poison worm things you're using, so...*shrug*

My dog is my mole hunter. Of course I have holes all over the yard, and I found a mole on my sofa once but I am ok with that. I am considering beneficial nematodes for ongoing "safe" additional pest killing though. Anyone ever tried them?

The moles could have left due to the extra chemicals too.

Home Depot now sells the 'near' commercial mole traps and they do work pretty good.

Got a lot of the cable railing done. I did it differently than I did at my other place and stitched the cable through the post and used 8" eye hooks to tighten each row. It's 1 cable all the way through. I think from now on i'll do 2 rows per wire because the eye hooks can start bending towards each other when you start cranking it down.
