We have had one of the small Honda at the farm for years.

Always easy to start, runs big appliances, low fuel usage, fairly quiet, can run a TV etc.

All wanted to stick with it because it's familiar and has always worked well

Speaking of Honda: Neighbors Honda push mower. In 9 years, NO oil change, NO spark plug change, NO air filter change. It starts on the first pull every single time and runs like a champ.

I'm going to do some maintenance on it this weekend. I think its time.

I had two mowers with Briggs Intek V-twin. I had low expectation of it when I bought the first one. 400 hours in 90F+ heat. 25 hour oil changes with standard Pennzoil. I checked the engine before I sold it. Perfect compression, no leaks, didn't burn oil. Vaccum unit went out and the throttle linkage got loose. Both easy fixes. Started and ran just like new because it basically was.

So opinions on this: should I change the oil/fluids in my riding mower in the fall and let it sit over winter with new fluids, or should I let it sit over winter with the old fluids, and change them in the spring?

There seems to be quite a lot of varying opinions on this.

The only problem I’ve ever had over the winter was old gas gumming up the carburetor. Just take it apart and clean it in the spring if it happens. 🤷‍♂️

the only fluid issues is always from the ethanol in the gas tank, either drain the tank or use sta-bil and there should be no issues

I like to run it til it dies to get all the gas out of the carb bowl.

Pain in the ass to push it into the shed, though.

I think I'll just go with stabil in the tank. And I'll likely start it a few times over the winter months. I'm a bit OCD that way.

Yeah those little Honda generators have been $900-$1200 for years now. I really want one because they are so quiet and portable but I can't really justify it when I have other generators. Those things are so nice to carry around though.

And yeah, I've said it before but both Honda and Briggs and Stratton small engines are totally bulletproof. I have 2 or 3 briggs and probably 9 honda motor powered things and sometimes I do maintenance on them, sometimes I don't, but they all just work 95% of the time. From time to time I'll get a clogged carburetor but that's literally the only thing that goes wrong with them as long as you don't run them without oil.

i got the washing machine when i bought the house and it stank, so i tried this
d99f1c452516a1e0091dd963228e2777.jpg

1 cups (he says maybe 2 cups, thats what i used) of citric acid and a bit of oxy clean and it worked for a month, then it came back this weekend and i used it again and it also went away.

i also learned i should leave the top door open all the time.

when i first looked at it the area where you put detergent/softner

had blackmold all over it and deep instead, took a while to clean that off with a toothbrush.

i've openly stated my hatred of "advanced" washers and this is a nice new samsung, and it smells, idk..., i'll just keep on using the citric acid every month.

Is the drain line pinched or impeded? How often do you use the washer?

once a week, drain line has easy access
Make sure you have clearance under the drain line. If it’s pushed too far down or impeded in the drain pipe it could be getting blocked up and not draining properly. Maybe that bad smell is water being prevented from draining.

maybe, but that was the first thing i checked for mold and there was none (doesn't mean i won't stop checking tho), i hope the smell at least goes away, i've been looking and it's said use powdered detergent and no fabric softener cuz it might contain tallow(beef fat) for microbes to cling to. i might try that but i've been using liquid tide (recently he) and snuggle for years and never had a smell (in basic knob machines)

i'll still be doing the citric acid once a month, that at least seems to do something.

Off the top of my head the only other thing I can think of is poor airflow in the area and high humidity. To state the obvious, mold requires moisture to grow. Figure out where the moisture is coming from (or why it’s not going away, in this case), and you’ll have solved your problem.
