Yep and they could do one more season and wrap the story up with the remaining 13 episodes if they do 10 next season. Its not very long, but its pretty obvious where this season will end.

Rhaenyra taking King's Landing
Pretty sure next season is also gonna be 8 episodes. This show is expensive, more expensive than GoT, and brings in far less viewers.

For your spoiler, seems very unlikely unless they cut out even more shit. I really don't get it but they are really shitty writers so I guess it makes sense. cut out 75% of the story and then just add useless filler nothing happens episodes where the plot doesnt advance to make up for all the content you cut?

So far here is what seems to have been cut:
Rhaenyra's two youngest children, Aegon III and Viserys, both toddlers on the show, sent across to Pentos for safekeeping. Their ships are attacked by the Triarchy, Aegon escapes on his dragon (dragon barely large enough to carry his weight, dies immediately after landing on dragonstone with crossbow bolts and arrows peppering his body). Viserys is thought dead (returns 10 years later, well after the dance of dragons is over, so basically dead for the purposes of this show). They seem to have cut this and have the 2 toddlers living in the Vale of Arryn. Question is, then why did the bother setting up the entire triarchy war with Daemon in Season 1? That whole war he waged for the stepstones that they wasted several episodes telling? yeah that was to set up that the triarchy are Rhaenyra/Daemon's enemy and they take out her children.

Here's the remaining Major plot points that need to happen for
Rhaenyra to take King's Landing
:

1. Team black recruits dragon seeds to ride the remaining dragons. (lots of failed attempts/dead knights, several bastards come forward and tame 4 additional dragons for Team Black. One of them is Addam Hull, one of Corlys' bastards, since is now a dragon rider Corlys and jace ask Rhaenyra to legitimatize them as Velaryons and they become Corlys heir to driftmark.

2. Massive Triarchy Fleet of 90 warships ships joins the Reach/Hightower fleet and wages a massive naval battle. they end the blockade, wipe out the Velaryon fleet, land raiders on driftmark, destroy their shipyards, and burn down Spicetown (The major city on driftmark) and lay siege to High Tide (Corlys' Castle).

3. Jacerys leads his dragon to counter attack the assault on driftmark. The ships are equipped with scorpions and crossbowman and are ready to face a dragon. Then 4 more dragons descend from dragonstone and wipe out the Triarchy fleet. However, Jacerys and his dragon Vermax are killed in the defense. (this was called the Battle of the Gullet and it is one of the bloodiest sea battles in all of ASOIAF history.)

Consequences of this battle: The triarchy lost 60+ ships, Velaryons lost 1/3 of their ships. spicetown was destroyed and never rebuilt, all of the people were put to death. High Tide was burned to the ground, all of the wealth of House Velaryon, everything that Corlys had brought back home on his many voyages, was looted or burned. House Velaryon was virtually ended by this. Prince jacerys, heir to Rhaenyra, was killed and his dragon was lost. Also during this is when the ship carrying Rhaenyra's two youngest was captured by pirates and while Aegon III escaped via his little dragon, they had no word on what happened to Viserys (again he turns up 10 years later after living as a prisoner in Lys) but again the show seems to have cut this part out. IDK if they are going to cut out the Triarchy all together and just have it be the Hightower(redwyne) fleet doing this naval battle.

4. The Hightower army that is marching to meet up with the lannisters to attack the riverlands/harrenhal, is trapped between 2 smaller Rhaenyra loyal armies from the Reach (Rowan of Goldengrove and Tom flowers Bastard of Bitterbridge), and almost have to retreat back to old town, until Daeron on his dragon Tessarion joins the Hightower army. The hightower army with dragon support wipes out both opposing smaller armies and can finally march. Daeron (who was a 15 year old squire to Ormund Hightower (brother of Otto and leader of the army) is knighted and named Ser Daeron the Daring for his heroics in this battle.

5. with the pyrrhic victory of the gullet, loss of their Heir, and the loss in the reach (the battle of Honeywine), team black is forced to contemplate surrender. Due to the loss of what is though to have been 3 of her 5 sons, Rhaenyra goes full mad queen and wants full scorched earth, burn down king's landing, murder everyone.

6. Aemond plots to kill daemon seeing him as the only true threat, so he wants the Lannister army (from the west) and Criston Cole's Army (from the south) to pincher attack harrenhal and wipe out the riverlords, while he would wait for Daemon to bring out Caraxes to defend so he could fuck him up with Vhagar.

7 Daemon, still with spies in King's Landing, learned of this plan and desperate not to get smashed between two armies, so he repositions his riverlords to attack the lannister army before they can cross the river. Idk maybe they will somehow work in the Frey/twins shit from last episode into this? I mean I guess.

8 The ironborn, opportunistic as fuck and loyal to nobody, invade the westerlands as soon as the lannister army marched on the riverlands and they rape raid and reave throughout.

9 survivors and minor lords attempt to retake the castles Cole took (ie rooks' rest) and try to kill Aegon's wounded dragon. Dragon bbqs them and, his wing having healed up enough, he flies away

10 Daemon, having sent his army out of Harrenhal to pre-emptively attack the attackers, flies with his dragon, avoiding all the armies looking for him, turns east and joins Rhaenyra. Together on their dragons they fly to King's Landing. The peasants freak out and start evacuating expecting them to burn down King's landing. What's left of the Velaryon ships sail into the bay. With Aegon wounded, Aemond and Cole out in the field marching towards Harrenhal, and all the other loyal armies fighting throughout the realm King's Landing was basically defenseless. The only dragons had no riders to defend (halaena being mad with grief, her children too young to fly on their dragons, one of her sons also being dead). Alicent attempts to rally the defenders but the Gold gloaks immediately betray Team green and take everyone captive and hand the city to Rhaenyra. Alicent's Brother Gwayne is killed during this.

So if the end goal is to get to 10 in 3 episodes, then you've got to cut alot of those things out.

1 is already hinted at happening I expect it next episode, plus they could lay some of the legwork of like, 6, 7 and maybe even 9. that's episode 6. Items 2-3 are major events that have to happen, so I could see that happening in episode 7. after that.....They could cut out 4 (I mean they haven't even shown daeron in the show yet), would save a lot of money that's a major battle sequence. The could cut out 8 (no need for ironborn storyline not important to this). That could leave them to combine all of 5, 9, 10 into a single episode. It would be tight and would need to be smartly written (lol for this team) but it's possible, if they cut a bunch of stuff. But again that begs the question, why is 90% of this season useless filler if the goal is to get to that by the end of 8 episodes?

I don't think we are getting three back to back to back massive battles/dragon fight episodes. I'm betting 4 is moved to season 3, gives them time to cast all those actors.

live view (not actually live I don't give HBO money for this garbage, live torrent? yeah)

first 9 minutes are miraculously book accurate, only minor nitpick being halaena being an autistic retard who just stares off (in the books she is completely grief stricken over her son and never leaves her room) I mean there's been virtually no dialogue just shots of the aftermath of the battle. I believe this 9 whole minutes is the longest stretch of proper adaptation so far in season 2.

around the 9 minute mark is where characters start actually speaking dialogue thus they have to start shitting on the books. Aemond hinting that he should be king, then Criston Cole and Alicent discussing the battle. Because they changed the battle so much they have to keep playing out this string basically making Aemond some kind of usurper.

Gonna note here that the show isn't even faithful to itself. Last week they showed that there was a plan, Cole was going to bait out a dragon/dragon rider and have Aemond kill it with Vhagar. This was of course shit fucking writing since Rook's rest was chosen as the bait spot because its a 5 minute dragon flight across the bay from dragonstone. IN the show, Team black has literally 5 fucking dragons + dragon riders at their disposal (in addition to Meleys, they have Syrax, Vermax, Tyraxes, and moondancer in the show version, in the book its a baby dragon that's not big enough to ride). This plan was fucking stupid, risking Vhagar against potentially 5 fucking dragons. But of course the show writers are too fucking stupid to realize this. So anyway, in the show, the plan was 1 vs 1 somehow and the king out of incompetennce or ego or a quest for glory decided to join the attack without any thought or preparation at all, he was never part of the trap in the show.

So why the fuck was all these scenes book accurate? Why the fuck aren't Cole and Aemond yelling at everyone in King's landing for letting the king foolishly rush off and join the fight? it's fucking their fault he was hurt and injured, he was never part of the plan in the show. Alicent should be kicking herself and blaming the council or the king's guard for allowing him to rush off like a retard. but no, everyone seems to be blaming cole and Aemond for what happened to Aegon.

What shit fucking writers. Anyway, moving on...

And of course the entirety of the black council and Rhaenyra volunteering to lead the charge is all bullshit and made up non-sense. Also doesn't show corlys condeming Rhaenyra, this was a major plot point in the book. it's going to be hard to explain her tossing him into the black cells later.

the next half dozen scenes and dialogue are just filler and completely made up. the bracken vs blackwood scene with Daemon, Jace and Baela, Rhaena at the Eyrie with lady Arryn, Mysaria and Rhaenyra, Rhaeynra and Baela, etc.

I actually don't mind the trippy shit with Daemon, the woods witch Alys Rivers fucking with his head. I mean she does end up seducing both Daemon and Aemond so it's an interesting take on that. Again I think this is the shows way of showing his inner most thoughts, ie correcting the record since they spent so much energy making Rhaenyra's team the good guys they now gotta work double time to make Daemon back into a bad guy.

they are also slow playing the riverlands to make Daemon out to be, idk, incompetent? or dragging his feet? No, he's already gathered up the riverlords and has a huge host at Harrenhal, he's been doing that since the end of last season in the book timeline. He done been had a fucking army ready to go, it's why Criston Coles army didn't march on Harrenhal.

wtf giving king Aegon Valyrian Steel armor? huge change. In the book his armor on his left arm was melted so much that it fused to his body (like they showed) but it was normal steel not Valyrian steel. There is only 1 known suit of Valyrian Steel and it doesn't exist in Westeros at this time in the history. It's in the smoldering ruins of Old Valyria and it is found by Euron Greyjoy during GoT time which is like 190 years after this show takes place.

The green council, also all this is made up to show fracturing of the green side, or doubt, or whatever dumb shit. Alicent never tries to be the regent, there is never a discussion on this. The moment Cole and Aemond return with Aegon Cole immediately names Aemond the heir, and it is Aemond who says he will only rule as a Regent and names himself Protector of the Realm, Prince Regent, not king. Alicent is the one who bars the gates to the city, not Aemond (and it has nothing to do with food shortages, the small folk are terrified of king's landing burning down from retalation/dragon attacks from Rhaenyra). Aemond has no actual interest in ruling, he only wants to merc armies, castles ,and dragons. he immediately decides that Daemon is the only threat and once he dies Rhaenyra's cause is lost, so he immediately heads out to kill Daemon and his dragon.

This whole Freys/twin thing is all made up, I guess to use a setting familiar to GoT viewers (hey look, the twins!) none of this happens. Oh look, the frey's are sneaky backstabbers just like they were in GoT...

Yeah they really laying it on thick about Aemond being like Orange Man Bad heil hitler or some shit. I'm surprised they didn't give him a super thin villain mustache to twirl or something. All this shit is made up. Note that i'm not saying he is a good guy or something, no far from it. He's a killer and he knows it. he spends the rest of the war flying around randomly attacking any town/city/castle that is sworn to Rhaenyra, burning thousands of men women and children alive with Vhagar. He is doing this to bait out Daemon to fight him. He does later take Harrenhal and he knocks up Alys Rivers who was also Daemons lover too. I guess she has a thing for blond badboys who ride big ol dragons.

The scene with Baela and Corlys is quite touching but completely made up. Actually let me back up a second and explain something. The #1 huge change is really the timeline in which these events take place. The show is week to week and alludes to or implies a great deal of time has passed between scenes or episodes, but they have not.

In the Book the following occur:

Rhaenyra's father (Viserys) dies
Her brother Aegon is crowned as King, "usurping" her throne
The news of both of these things happen force her into early labor (she was 8 months pregnant) and after 3 days of agonizing labor she has a stillborn daughter, Visenya
Rhaenyra, who has had to this point 5 sons with 2 different men (her lover Harwin Strong, and her Uncle Daemon), has always wanted a daughter, and when she finally has one it dies in the womb due to hearing the news that she lost her father and her crown.
She sends her sons out as emissaries to rally lords to her side, her eldest to the vale and then on to winterfell, the 2nd just a hop across the bay to storm's end, he is only 13 she doesn't want him in danger
He is immediately fell upon by Aemond seeking vengeance for his lost eye
In her grief/madness she orders the murder of Aegon's son for the loss of her son
In retaliation, Ser Arryk is sent and almost assassinates her, he is killed by and kills Ser Erryk, his own twin brother and Rhaenyra's only king's guard who stood by her side
Her brother's army lead by Criston Cole has marched on every castle, executed every lord who declared for her. The last castle cries for help from dragonstone
in response she sends Rhaenys (who is her, uh 2nd cousin? her father's cousin) who is killed along with her dragon.

All this happens over the course of like, 4 fucking weeks. She is still on bedrest from the still birth until the letter arrives asking for her aid, and she is still too weak to fly. Hell Jace doesn't even return from Winterfell until like near the end of this sequence, he just got back basically. They are all still mourning the death of Ser Erryk. She is still mourning the death of her son Luce, her one and only daughter who never got to live, etc. So the show having her teleport all over and personally volunteering to lead every single attack (yet her council talks her out of it, but because she's a woman, and you know, the patriarchy and shit) is such a shit show and legitimately does her such a disservice.

Rhaenyra is a terrible person. she is basically Cersei. But even cersei had redeeming qualities, as does Rhaenyra. But a lot of the evil and hate that happens in this story is because of blind rage and vengeance on both sides that just spirals out of control far too quickly to stop. dragging this out and showing all these decisions to be calculated, or just changing it so its girlboss girlpower getting held down by the MAN really, really undercuts what sympathy should exist for this character.

Anyway. Corlys blames Rhaenya for his wife's death and refuses to speak to her, Rhaenyra is back to being bedridden in grief for the death of yet another person close to her because she's bad at leading. Her son jace takes over. He is the prince regent and he takes over the council, starts making all the decisions and planning all the moves. he isn't fucking around at the twins threating or promising frey's shit, he is doing his job and leading team Black. It is at this point that he sends away his siblings for safe keeping, Joffrey to the Vale (on his dragon, as he had promised the Vale a dragon for protection, idk why the show changed this to be two baby dragons? wtf is this supposed to be, Jace kept his word and sent Joffrey on Tyraxes, a dragon large enough to ride.)

Actually hold up.. Rhaena went with a dragon egg....Actually it looks like they changed this completely. Both Aegon III and Viserys the two little toddlers in the show must be what they are referring to as the two hatchlings, this is a HUGE departure from the books, guess they don't want to show team black as that incompetent, couldn't figure out how to twist it to make Rhaenyra look good having her two youngest children attacked and captured by pirates.

Anyway, it is Jace who makes amends with Corlys by naming him hand of the queen.

And back to harrenhal...this whole bracken and blackwood bullshit is just dragging shit out filler, to make daemon look bad I guess. more made up garbage, its going to be hard to explain the upcoming battles if daemon doesn't have an army yet....oh wait I guess Rhaenyra can come in and magically get everyone to come together cus "girls get it done" or something.

Whats actually happening in the book is the riverlands are on Rhaenyra's side (except the tully's have not declared or marched), Aegon's side has the lannisters with an army marching, as well as the reach. except it is the Reach which is fractured. There are massive armies out of Oldtown loyal to the hightowers/aegon but other lords like the Tarlys and such are actually sworn to Rhaenyra so they are squabbling and actually fighting one another (mostly harrassment campaigns, killing scouting parties, etc, preventing them from marching).

Anyway this whole episode was basically bullshit filler. The only thing that happened is:
Oh no Rhaenys died last episode lets be sad about it
Oh shit team green is winning we need more dragons
We have dragons we need dragon riders
Oh yeah, duh.
honestly this acting is so horrible fast forwarding and then reading nerdrage Sylas Sylas aftershow is a better watch

American TV writers don’t rush to the end (the rare example actually the end of GoT only because they wanted to leave)

they will drag this out to 5 seasons if they can, and that’s why they are making shit up or altering. They are gonna float along until an executive tells them button it up.

there is no way we get to 10 on Sylas list before episode 5 of next season. They will drag this out and likely end this season will war in the riverlands looming, Daemon finally having secured an army, albeit just a small Blackwood force with the Tullys still pending

episode 8 will see the big surprise being some dragon seeds.

it’s more likely to see 10 on that list be the the end of next season, with season 4 being 8 episodes to finish up the war

Don't think they will be given a choice. The writers were straight up told you only get 8 episodes per season now. And they were only renewed for season 3. I think they are going to try and finish their queer feminist dance theory version of this story in the episodes remaining to them. I see lots of trimming down happening.

Thinking more about it, why did they change all the riverlands stuff with Daemon this season? I guess they are going to cut out ALL of that. Lannister army never marches, Daemon never has an army at harrenhal he is just sitting there dining with the steward on mutton, protesting the whole war because nobody will call him the King, pouting like a bitch. Then Rhaenyra calls him out on his toxic masculinity and tells him to man up and join her during item 10, in episode 8.

Basically cut out all the massive land battles, that lets you get to 10 in only 3 episodes. episode 6 gets to be another bullshit filler time wasting nothing happens episode except a few more dragon riders, episode 7, massive naval battle. episode 8 is the conclusion.

I thought Every Frame A Pause was well known around here. I would say your assumptions about member composition are incorrect, but they do have a based furry as a regular.

They do a good(and lengthy) job of reviewing and critiquing popular media. Their review of the first two episodes is a bit under 5 hours. I don't get the impression that they read the source material. I'm not sure that should be necessary.

For the total boomer response - have you considered, you know, watching the 1 hour and deciding if you like it, rather than watching a 5 hour video that tells you whether you like it or not ?

Even if said 5 hour video is right 100% of the time about your tastes, this seems an awfully inefficient method.

I can listen to most podcasts, this one included, in a variety of contexts: yardwork, playing games, mundane work, etc. If this show is like GoT, especially the night battles, I actually have to focus my attention.

Rarely ever listen to a full EFAP. You can suss out their opinions 25% through at most.

HoD is on the short list of stuff to watch if I get that rare "100% focus" time. For example, I just watched No Way Home a few weeks ago. That said, I get lazy sometimes and would rather just play a game and turn my brain off.

So I went back and watched it.

for all the faults of the show and for those who ask why we watch.

Go back and watch the scene where King Viserys dying, years from court, shows up to back up his daughter.

That scene is so good. All time tv shit. This is why we love this series and why we get mad at fuck ups. We can see how good it can be.

as a father o cry watching him show up for his girl. Anyone who can watch that scene should understand but be torn for the clear velaryon claim. It forces us to decide do we honor truth or love.

it might be the best scene in a HBO show.
Yeah. It’s that good.
and since the show is so bad

A lot of people saying it's sad that Rhaenys was unalived not knowing her son was still alive. The really sad thing is to know is that Master Aemon in his demise. Fighting as hard as he could to be reunited with his niece Daenerys. Knowing what she really misses and wants and that is family. The last Targaryen who didn't manage to be together.

that's a deleted scene on the S01-S08 bluray box set

I actually started S01 earlier this week now that they're available in Dolby Vision and Atmos. Thought S01 would be boring as I've seen it so many times, and was looking forward much more to getting to S02. But there's still moments that stir the loins like when Cat seizes Tyrion at the inn.

the rat catchers all got hung 2 weeks ago

i did find it funny how rhaenyrs is mad at Lord Alfred that he won't "let her do what she wants". Bitch, you spent 1 episode finding your dead sons dragon corpse and crying over it without telling anyone. Then you re-enacted Sister Act 2 for 3 weeks without telling anyone. YOU LITERALLY DO WHATEVER THE FUCK YOU WANT ALL THE TIME lol

Hope we get Otto back before the season ends. Episode 7 is 67 minutes, episode 8 is 73 minutes.

I think the show runners really liked Raised By Wolves. Corlys bastard son is the other robot raising the kids from that show too as "Father".

True, I had noticed him but forgot about that. I checked, same casting director
