I think that they are purposefully being light on those families because of how heavily GoT featured them, I know for sure that one of those families is involved by the end, but you don't want to start off retreading too much old ground.so what are the Starks, Greyjoys, Tyrells, Lannisters and Mormonts up to?
well, that doesnt wash. we got tons of targ stuff in GoT. we got tons in the books too. goddamn some of those Daeny in Meereen chapters were pure torture. lots of stuff is always happening in Westeros, not just those inbred hicks, The Targaryens.I think that they are purposefully being light on those families because of how heavily GoT featured them, I know for sure that one of those families is involved by the end, but you don't want to start off retreading too much old ground.
In GoT those families filled the Targargen power vacuum so were very active in kingdom politics, in this time period it's only 150 years since they were conquered so I think the Targargens are happy to keep them at arms length ruling their respective domains and paying taxes.
Also if you look at the marriages in the GoT appendices, the great families almost never intermarried until just before GoT when Jon Arryn started marrying everyone's daughters off. Targs were very much sticking to their loyalists.
Mormonts are just Stark bannermen living on a frozen island in the far northwest, I would be surprised to see any outside of a reference or cameo, because they are literally the furthest from King's Landing possible.
We now see the Sea Snake (black guy from Ep 1 and 2) out in the field-- but he doesn't actually do anything. Not only does he not do anything, but he doesn't even really say much of anything or display any leadership skills that support his high station and rank. The introduction of his son was just as weak as his father.
so what are the Starks, Greyjoys, Tyrells, Lannisters and Mormonts up to?

Half cocked trash just like the ending of episode 3.
Spend a portion of 2 episodes about a infection from 2 cuts.
3rd episode 2 years later. I feel happy. I feeeeeel happy
I never understood the whole strategy.
First we hear they're losing the war because the crab forces retreat into caves to avoid the dragons. (and if they're meant to be nukes, how did Targ+Valaryon nukes not win it in the earlier battles 2-3 years earlier)
Then we see them on a separate island trying to strategise when Damon receives the note of additional forces.
So how did they manage to get their forces across whilst Damon was waving the white flag?
IKR. If this was real even his dragon couldn't save him!Got hit by 3 arrows including the leg after killing 30 dudes and rowing across a channel, still has energy to kill crab dude.
