This is how dumb people are. Only a tiny percentage of Americans even have deposits that would need anything beyond FDIC insurance but half of Americans think the <2k they have in the bank is not safe? lololol
My sweet summer child, you think the FDIC can actually cover the deposits of all those americans if things went tits up? I'm sure their savings are right next to the Social security wealth building fund that has been accruing interest all these years.

I'm not sure all those "dumb poor Americans" are specifically worried that FDIC won't insure their deposits.

I suspect its more a general and poorly defined fear of a bank run scenario, fueled by the reality that banks don't actually hold your deposit in cash in the safe, and by all the general "banks are failing" news. I suspect they're worried that if they wanted to go withdraw their money right now they wouldnt be able to. Anyone whos tried to make a large withdrawal without advance notice knows this isnt an entireley unreasonable fear.

Not disputing anything about FDIC. But there is a distinction between "your money is safe and you'll get it back" versus "you can withdraw it today".

Took a small starter position in GD at $206.50
Love the company and have been waiting for an opportunity to get back in. The next support level is $198 and will most likely add more if it gets there.

Lets just cut to the chase and assume that the majority of the small regionals failed to hedge interest rates properly to "maximize profits" and are going to fail.

Well that's what the poll quesiton was.
Feel like Furry Furry answered your question. People could very well understand the FDIC would cover their money in a normal scenario, but when all the banks collapse, well...good fucking luck.

Although the reality is more likely the dollar just collapses completely and it's all worthless.

Translation: WAL is in fact considering a sale, but they dont want the info public until the C-Suite and various members of Congress can dump all their shares.

Be interesting to know what percentage of deposists are not insured. May not be me, but above zero possibility that it may be the company you work for going off the reports when SVB went under and companies were running around to make payroll.

I think, like others here, that most people realize that the Fed can't possibly insure every single dollar in banks if the whole system goes belly up.

The insurance is there if a small % of banks go up. But if a large % goes belly up, the Fed would either not be able to pay people their money or they'd have to print a fuckton of greenbacks making it worthless anyways.

I'm kind of confused about this. I really figured it'd be a function of people just dropping out of the workforce completely (boomers, lazy zoomers), but the labor participation rate is still ticking up.
I don't believe a single number the govt releases about anything. There is no way I am convinced the labor participation rate is going up.

Just in my God forsaken industry, you can see businesses suffering every day due to lack of staff.

I have a contract with Coke, but they can't find enough drivers to deliver on schedule.

Pepsi couldn't get enough product out due to.a shortage of people in the aluminum industry

You still see notices all over about due to " staffing issues " service or quantity " is subject to change.

Most of your stores that were open 24/7 now close at 8pm to 10pm.

Can't get my machines serviced due to lack of technicians.

Signs everywhere stating they are hiring immediately...

Labor participation is up...my ass.
