So you won't put up AND you won't shut up

Why is this making you so upset?

I've been nothing but polite and cordial to you. And given you so much valuable information.

Fairly new 401k as I was a consultant for this company until 2022. Here is my rate of return since 2022:

Here is my fund distribution (my plan won't allow me to invest in a single fund, I have to put at least a trivial amount into at least 5 funds)

View attachment 530834

Care to share your performance and fund distribution for that 401k over the same time frame comrade?
I hear that 500-index thingee has a pretty solid track record over the last 100 years or so. And historically no fund can beat it consistently for more than a 5-8 year stretch. At least thats what I read on the intarwebs.

That’s pretty amazing. Remind me how much effort that took?

So here's where I use my gotcha.

Why aren't you a billionaire?

If it's an issue of having too small of a portfolio, why aren't you leveraged out of your ass throwing everything you have at the market? If you can beat the market and it's easy peasy, you should be extravagantly rich. I mean, you just pick winners.

You know how to beat SPY? QQQ!

I just so happened to start this position in May 22 :)

Why aren't hedge fund managers whom you trust with your money are all billionaires?

This is my dollarcost avg passive portfolio. I do not touch this thing but maybe once every few years if I'm positive I have a good read on a decline. Touched in 2018 and 2020 and I think that's about it in the last 8 years or so.

Khane where you buying regularly on the one you posted? the spy return seems to say no, you can see the same period above and this portfolio is almost entirely S&P maybe 40 grand russell 2000, I'll have to check that.

It's a 401k so yes, bi weekly contribution

Keep in mind that's starting from 0 and includes employer contribution match

Starting from 0 makes, obviously, a huge difference.

The real numbers are valuable and I think contribute a lot, even though most people are shy about such things, and since you posted:

Merrill Lynch is garbage and I have to actually watch my contributions manually or they will over contribute, so I try to get as close as I can to max without going over.

Again, this is from May 2022 til now, because, oddly, thats when I actually went full time for this company and was allowed to start contributing. So this is only over that 2 year time period, not 5.

What's your investment strategy?

Watching this thread for entries into blue chips, that I inevitably miss the entry point on, and buy 10 pts later.

This happens bc I deposit money to invest monthly so I’m always looking for entries. Instead of waiting and timing entries I immediately invest.

Picking indexes for the larger % of my entries seems like a much more manageable strategy.

Maybe I start allocating 40% SPY, 40% QQQ, and then just use 20% for blue chips.

I'm pretty much long in all my investments but I have an account I pretend to day trade with, largely gambling to be honest, but I'm doing surprisingly well with it. Started it with 5k last summer and I'm a tad over 15k now. Last two trades I did this week, I bought when I meant to sell and sold when I meant to buy and they both netted a grand in profit in a day. I'm rather conflicted how to feel about it.

Nice. Just remember, only ever buy winners. That's how people get screwed is when they start buying loser companies. Like, why would you even buy loser companies at all?

Because I may then take it seriously and actually do what I meant to do instead of the opposite because I'm fat fingering my trading app while riding a bicycle.
