I lost my LT LOW shares on Friday. Just a good example of not giving myself enough time to allow for RL bullshit to sometimes get in the way. Friday was monthly option expiration. I had some calls in the money and normally I would just roll that out. Time got away from me and with 15 mins to go I started entering my orders. There is a divy this week and options computer algos don't like ex divy as it complicates the math some. Just meaning spreads tend to be wider. I was in a call with very little activity and they where nailing me with a +$1 spread. I was trying to use a roll order so closing one call and selling another at the same time. When you do this your bid and ask won't show the system attempts to respond rather than act. By the time I went to cancel that roll so I could enter both legs at the time so I could get the machines to tighten the spread they didn't fill my order...So my shares are gone. That's not the end of the world but its a tax hit that sucks.

This realizes my gains in the underlying and means a tax hit...23 days before it was going to roll over to a LT gain son of a b.

I guess we'll see where it goes but if she sold yesterday she missed the peak by a ton, and it certainly wasn't down 11% in one day. It's down 0.2% today and 5% over the last week.

Edit: nvm the link says she sold it Dec 31st. Which is odd since the market wasn't open that day, but whatever...

Im pretty sure the markets were open NYE.

This was a less egregious trade by Nancy. As we discussed early, AAPL is stretched pretty far by year end. Selling off that high isn't the craziest thing. But do I think there is a chance she got inside info on AAPL sales at year end? There most definitely is.

market current trajectory is to test the high in next few days. I'm still holding $600k of S&P , part of me just wants to take the win and run but if we can set a new high 6200 would follow shortly thereafter.

Im up $28,554 for the month and I've spent most of the month pissed off for mishandling. It's my worst feeling good month in a while, just so many trades that could have gone better. Buying the $600k in S&P ended up being most of it, so the trades were meh but the risk on move was the correct one.

I'm leaning towards selling today, I believe I've been too weak handed so I'm wrestling with that. I should have held the IWM/RSP a day or two more. If I'm wrong I won't make shit in Feb (maybe $5k or something) and I have to decide if that is shittier than the feeling of missing out on further gains.

I share your sentiment, it's basically peak optimism time with the new administration coming in and AI hype. I don't really want to go all cash so I've rotated some of it out of the S&P and into emerging markets ETF and energy stocks. My total investments aren't anywhere near that size but it's grown beyond being play money.

Selling a week before peak earnings week? If the bigs hit homeruns next week I could see that igniting another leg up. Now, granted, if they stumble then its an elevator ride down.

Won't surprise me, I think we will see the broad strength morph back into the concentrated strength and I think it's at that point it rolls over. What I'm considering is my ability to time that to eek out that additional gain. It's an issue of $12-20k more gain being possible, which look I'd love to get that just another peg towards goal. There is a danger in trying to get the last 2-3% that part of the rally is lost in one afternoon so it's a tricky one to time.

I trade pullbacks well, I trade late stage rallies poorly. That is me, I make more money over time waiting for fear even if I sit on the sidelines during certain periods. That doesn't mean I get a better price than buy and hold. It means maybe I buy 6000 after an ugly pullback from higher levels but the set up is different. My goal is always to maximize gains while reducing risk and exposure.
