You're seriously saying that not only did inflation drop on groceries, that it's -50% in the last month?

I do the grocery shopping for my house and can tell you that at best prices are relatively flat this year.

Maybe your wife changed her spending patterns, but prices are not going down 50%.
Yeah, I have no idea what kind of wizard math his wife is doing, but I also do the grocery shopping in my household and at best, it's flat since Jan.

There’s the wizard math I’m talking about, that’s the month, 3 adults and a small child, I take care of my father, we ate out a handful of times due to my work schedule.

If you want I can show you October and September since I don’t think November and December with Thanksgiving and Chris would be fair.

I did end up buying a bunch of stuff on Friday, although I am focusing on Euro stocks because I'm not willing to take on the currency risk on dollar denominated stocks just yet. If the plan is to devalue the dollar (which plays into the plan to boost US domestic production/exports) then every 1% it loses vs the Euro is that much extra loss for me.

Lot of Euro stuff dropped just as much as the S&P stuff did, even things that have very little direct exposure to US/EUR reciprocal tariffs.

I moved my 401k to a stable value fund after the announcement, we'll see if this is just a short term Trump negotiation tactic or a long term policy. Quite a big market dip regardless.

Fed Chair Jerome Powell said Friday that he expects President Donald Trump’s tariffs to raise inflation and lower growth.

Powell added the Fed faces a “highly uncertain outlook” because of the new reciprocal levies the president announced Wednesday, keeping the Fed on hold for interest rate moves.

“We are well positioned to wait for greater clarity before considering any adjustments to our policy stance. It is too soon to say what will be the appropriate path for monetary policy,” he said.

Ok. But it doesn't mean the price of things have gone down, just the amount of your bill. I save an average of around 25-30% per trip by using coupons, buying generics, buying meat when it's on sale etc. It's great that your wife is killing it shopping for the family. It's hard to keep totals down.

But that doesn't mean that groceries have deflated anytime recently.

Here's are some examples from the BLS. The data is only through February since they're still calculating March:

BLS Data Viewer - Eggs
BLS Data Viewer - Milk
BLS Data Viewer - Ground beef
BLS Data Viewer - Chicken
BLS Data Viewer - Tomatoes

Here's a consolidated view:

If you look, nothing has gone down in any meaningful way over the last few months. Overall fruits and vegetables have gone down a little bit, but nothing like you're saying.

Welp. Just in case anyone is still unclear where we are headed. Yes, it's real.

I was going to quote post my post from about a month ago where I called this, but for some reason I can't look up my own posts.
