It's not so much the traffic jams that bother me, it's just so unpredictable. Like today if I drove in it would've been 1 hour 20 minutes, but going home it will be something like 2.5 hours. It's nuts.

I am a bit worried about finding the right train home, but I'll deal with that later I guess.

I recommend doing that
Noodle would have to figure out if its feasible given his home life. If there's already a "if the office door is closed I'm not home" policy then no big deal. The worst thing that can happen when working at home is other house members not really grokking the fact that you're working. I dealt with this on occasion at my last job. Don't have to worry about it here since they don't allow WFH at all.

It's a "you can work from home if you can't make it in", not a "schedule one day a week to work from home" type of thing.

I usually WFH once a week if I wake up late (i always do), but I always feel bad.

They're all hardware engineers though and need to be there, I don't.

2.5 hour commute = can't make it in
Here's the problem with that

I'll wake up, check google maps and see it say something like 1.5 hours. Grumble grumble whatever. By the time I get to 93 it's been maybe 1 hour? Now it's a 2.5 hour commute suddenly.

Oh well, I decided to go with the train now. My only drive will be through the backwoods of MA with no traffic.

The train is the right idea. It's too bad you bought a house, you'd have way more freedom in new job choices otherwise!

I would seriously be ready to murder people if I spent that long in the car dude. No idea how you deal with that.

1.5hr car drive is how long it takes to get to my parent's house and its why I never visit

You answered it in your first sentence man.

My last job it was a 1 hour drive each way, but it was on a single highway where you could just go 70 the entire way and the company was only a couple streets off the highway. I really didn't mind the hour at all, it flew by and gave me time to decompress after work.

With traffic 50% of the way I really do just want to kill people.

So... move? I guess riding the train is the right thing but it seems like you hate this job anyway. How much of hating this job is the commute?

Tough to quantify, I think it changes day to day. Unless you're in the city there's no real easy way to get in besides the trains. I don't want to live in the city.

On a day like today where someone is asking me to change and redefine fundamental principles of how a bios should behave I hate my job 95%

I had to commute like 45m-1h to college for 4 years. After that I knew I wanted to live as close to work as humanly possible and avoid any highways. I really hate driving.
