It's very Sheridan. Fairly episodic with very annoying (&very hot) women and totally unnecessary relationship-related drama injected into it. Every episode has some new episodic drama point. He needs to make that a seasonal thing, not an episode thing.

Crazy ex wife is the fucking worst. I can't wait for smart TVs to have AI in them so I can tell it "skip all scenes with this woman". If Sheridan could put out a show that didn't have any women at all, he'd have a masterpiece on his hands.

I'd bet $3 that @Mist would hate the Ex-wife, daughter and lawyer too.
I think if they just showed the wife/daughter from the perspective of Tommy (and never showed them on their own) it would be fine. Like the calls on facetime while he's trying to work are hilarious. The rest of it could be cut and nothing of value would be lost. They add nothing to the story at all.

A characteristic of all Sheridan shows is he makes these badass men who run over everything in their path except some hot girl who they totally turn into a quivering incel for. It's a pattern with him and it needs to stop because he writes those women so fucking annoying even I want to murder them, and the type of guys he writes in the show would have them in a hole in the desert by episode 2.

Enjoyed the season, but Cooper and the mistress storyline is awful.

The cartel shit also seemed way over the top.

I was a bit confused at how the main character describes how powerful the oil company is, but then it does not send real help to deal with the Cartel? The company could not hire 100 trained personnel to come down and deal with the situation? If a company truly is making over 1 trillion a year, they can take a moment to go down and send a message. The National Guard being used felt off. It wasn't the idea of how they got used, but it seemed like the message got mixed up. It also leads to a potential news story which then would make this public. With the current government, it would be played like Americans were animals just killing off people for no reason, instead of protecting our border.

It is kind of a difficult story to write without having some real life incidents behind it.

I guess I can write that one off as his character is talking about the big players in oil, and not necessarily Hamm's company. They're a small time oil company by the sounds of it (even if that means billions). The Chevrons wouldn't fuck around.

Then again, you're also correct that it's strange that he'll throw millions of dollars on a gamble to redo a well, but somehow not have the resources to hire some guns to provide security.

He did hire Security. Didn't you see that fat incel he hired a few episodes back to protect them from the cartel?

The cartel storyline was silly because the cartel doesn't fight the army (generally). They come and kill your family or your friends. They operate like the mafia, they aren't going to fight the national guard or the DEA straight up. Tommy bringing in the national guard doesn't do anything but escalate the attack against himself. The conclusion is supposed to be that the main cartel guy didn't want to escalate things against the Americans/DEA and rather wants to cooperate with them, which is the only way out of that conundrum where now the cartel has to retaliate against Tommy and his guys (who roll around alone with no protection.)

there is no real help, his whole character is built around being a master of the bluff

Goliath gets hilariously bad. Almost Prison Break levels of "this is so bad I'm actually enjoying watching it". Not quite, but almost.

I couldn't even have it as backround TV. Wtf happened between season 2-3? Season 3 should have been awesome, and season 4 I have no words for how bad it was, great actors but complete shit writing, even BBT sucks in season 3-4

I took it as maybe writers strike or covid which fits the time frame I think. It's literally such a huge jump, 2 normal seasons then S3 tries to go David Lynch.... wtf.

Lawyer show turns into everyone high on drugs and no one knows WTF is real.

Heidelbergs Wife in breaking bad was pretty annoying too. Not like there's much difference in theater and real life.

Held off on watching this cus sheridan tired of his shtick.

but nothing else worth watching and love me some Billy Bob. he's basically playing a cowboy version of the character he played in Bad Santa which is the best version of him, though I like him in pretty much everything.

Couldn't for the life of me place the hot ass fucking milf then oh yeah, Varsity Blues. Those tatas still holding up 25 years later! She's also in the final destination movies, at least the first one..

anyway only like 3 episodes in and so far it's fantastic, expecting it to fall to shit before season finale though as all things sheridan.

binged through, fun show. i think i figured out what taylor sheridans trick is, he creates fake drama that only lasts an episode. No one ever really feels in danger in this show, all the "oh no whats going to happen now" is usually resolved in the same episode, and everyone repeats everything constantly so people who are on the phone while watching don't have to pay much attention. No wonder the show is so wildly popular yet hardly anyone ever talks about it anywhere.

still, i'm not pissed at a show with hot women showing it off, its way better than the string of ugly chicks that has infested movies and TVs now. too bad they can't focus more on the actual oil business, that stuff is fascinating but only like 15% of the show.

i've barely watched Taylor TV stuff (enjoy his movies a lot), just Tulsa King season 1 so will slowly start catching up on his stuff - 1883, 1923, Tulsa season 2, Lioness Special Ops, i guess maybe Mayor of Kingstown. Maybe Yellowstone season 1 & 2 although I've heard the show drops off in quality dramatically?
