Kurios is going to be in SF starting next week. I know it's not in Vegas, but I picked up tickets today during Thanksgiving weekend. Never been to a Cirque show. I'm pretty excited.
Ka (MGM) is the best Cirque show in my opinion. I've seen most of the Cirque's in Vegas (haven't seen the Beatles one though). Zumanity is ok, I'm a gay man so lots of boobies isn't really my thing. Zarkana is all circus acrobatics themed. To me Ka was BEAUTIFUL, an amazing story with acrobatics and stage, very very recommended.

Ka is like watching an action movie in the form of a play. It's really incredible. All out fighting scenes, boat battles, exploration of a new world. Ka is the best.

Possibly going to Vegas at the end of May with the husband and am looking for advice on hotels. Some great stuff on shows and restaurants in here so think I'm good on those. We'd like to be close-ish to the Convention Centre but still on the strip. Price range is about that of MGM Signature and the like.

For quality I would say Wynn or Mirage, both are nice and further north on the strip then most of the others. Mirage is also a tram away from TI and not far from Showcase Mall.

We got a code for the Wynn and Encore to drop the price down to about $139 for their Panoramic King Suites. Which hotel is better? Thinking of doing a 7 day hike in Grand Canyon and relaxing in LV after.

We just stayed at Vdara the week before Christmas. It's next to Aria and Cosmopolitan. I thought it was a pretty good central location, although getting to Caesars was a giant pain in the ass with the Bellagio inbetween them (fuck that fountain show). It does have a direct connection with the Bellagio, and it shares the valet area with Aria (same property essentially). Aria seems a lot more calm than pretty much everywhere else on the strip.

Has anyone stayed at the Platinum Hotel? On Flamingo just off the strip. Had someone mention it and wanted to check. Non-resort place with suites.

I don't stay at the places that don't have their own casino so I can't help there. The best place I've stayed at by far is Bellagio, but you pay for the quality. And the tables in the casino have ridiculously high limits. Not exactly in my price range to be playing 10-20 no limit. I typically stay at MGM or Venetian. But that's mainly because Venetian's sports book is awesome and I like MGM's poker room. Not sure if you're into that stuff. I stayed at Paris for Halloween weekend and the room and resort are nicer than I expected, but Paris doesn't have a poker room so fuck that place.

It's central enough for me. Don't really care about anything north of the Venetian. And it's not like Vdara is far from Caesar's.

Flamingo is fine, nothing fancy Holiday Inn quality rooms but a nice location on the strip. Good enough if you are on a budget and just need a bed for the night. They also have a little outdoor bar right on the Strip that has great beer prices (BMC crap, but still) and is amazing for people watching.

When I'm doing conventions in Vegas I always stay on the strip as there are usually auxiliary events that go along with conventions that all happen on the strip so it is nice being able to walk to those rather than cabbing it everywhere. I made the mistake of trying to save a buck by staying at the Stratosphere one year, not only was that place a dump but any money I thought I'd save was washed out in all the cab-fares I ended up paying. In getting to the Convention Center everything on the strip is pretty much a $10 cab ride away. There is also a tram that heads over there but I wouldn't plan your place to stay around having easy access to the tram. Half the time it is out of order anyways.

Stayed in both multiple times - Wynn has a better pool area and is better located (and more active/busy on the floor itself), but Encore has newer, nicer rooms. Both are great and still my favorite places to stay on the strip (w/ casino's - the Mandarin Oriental down by Cosmopolitan is the nicest hotel in Vegas imo). The panoramic suites are pretty nice and have great views.

I've stayed there a couple times. It is pretty nice but you'll be having to take a cab everywhere unless your renting a car. If you do rent a car they only have valet service there, no selfpark. The rooms have always been clean when I have stayed there and nearly all have a balcony. Definitely one of the nice close to but off the strip properties.

Referring to my post about the Platinum?

I think we'll probably end up doing the Mirage. It's my first time to Vegas so would like to do the whole thing. May 27th-June 1st for us.

Mirage is across the street from the Venetian...so you aren't too far north, I'd say. The walking isn't bad, but the time and distances can be deceptive. It's not like a NYC grid full of 90 degree angles and stuff, sometimes the sidewalk areas will turn into a mandatory overhead crosswalk with stairs and shit. It'll probably be hot as fuck in May-June too, it definitely was in mid-April and kind of made the walking noticeably worse.

You're going with your husband? My wife and I went for our honeymoon and we really loved the Qua baths and spa place at Caesar's. The Roman baths and the steam/ice rooms...oh man.

A good idea is to bring a lot of water on the trip, especially if it is around Summer. DO NOT buy water from the bums on Vegas Blvd. There was a news story about them finding bottles out of the trash and filling them with water, then selling them for a buck each out of a cooler.

Haha not quite what I meant. Just meant wanted to do the resort/casino thing rather than smaller hotel. But thanks for the very odd link.
