Lasik Eye Surgery

Thats the old school method. Newer methods don't require that.
No, they still have to cut a flap off. The difference is that cut is now made with lasers instead of a small scalpel. But they still make a cut, pull a flap off, laser blast your eye, clean it up and put some sort of adhesive, and put the flap back. I'd agree that the period where you don't have the flap on your eye and you're damn near blind is definitely disconcerting. As it is when you can smell burning flesh.

I may have misunderstood I assumed he was referring to them manually cutting it which I have to imagine would be far more unnerving than a laser cut

Yeah, I can't really compare. Mine was laser cut. And it was weird as fuck because you can literally see them peeling it off and then your vision goes super blurry. It's made even more disconcerting by the fact that you're told to stare as closely as possible at a light point while the lasering happens, and all you are thinking is that you're blind and can barely see the fucking light, how do you know you're looking at it closely enough?

My wife got LASIK about 5 years ago and she says it was the best money ever spent. Loves it, no complications.

My gf got this done earlier in the year. Without glasses/contacts she was considered legally blind. Came out with close to 20/20 vision.

In a bit of a horror story, one of my friends got it done 3-4 years ago. He claims the surgeon somehow fucked up his tear ducts so his eyes were super dry. He's since had that fixed, but it lead to him accidentally confusing flea medication(for his cat) for eye drops. Suffice it to say, he's wearing glasses again. So long money.

I got it done at the beginning of 2014 (prk) and it was amazing. Occasional dryness, but thats it. My vision is somewhere between 20/20 and 20/15 now.
My wife was legally blind before corrective surgery. She went with ICL because the doctor who did a whole side of her family said she wasn't a good candidate. Because of how bad her vision was, the amount of material that needed to be removed greatly increases the chance of some really shitty side effects. Her contact prescription was -9.4 and -9.6 iirc.

I did my LASIK around 12 years ago via the old flap cutting method. I actually just went in for an eye exam today because my vision has degraded to the point where I notice it. I can still pass the drivers test, but am now around 20/30. I was young and dumb when I did my original LASIK and didn't do any of the appointments necessary in order to maintain my warranty. Now I get to see if they will do anything for me. Even with needing a touch up, still one of the best decisions I have ever made.

Be careful on who you go to. Technically they can get certified by a 2 hour class to do the procedure, so make sure it's not one of those doctors.

Lasik done, tis glorious. One thing that sucks, I have had 30 mg of valium and it ain't doing shit. They said it would knock me out and I'd sleep for 4 hours and I am lucid as shit.

Must resist urge to fallout.

Have my LASIK scheduled for Dec. 3rd. I am at a -6.25 diopter on both eyes but they said I will be perfect for LASIK due to no astigmatism and good lens thickness. I am able to get it done for $1200 an eye due to a discount from my sister (she is an Optometrist that is a frequent referrer).

One day post surgery, got my eyes checked and they are 20/20. Only complaint I have is that long range seems to lack acuity, but I'm told that will go away over time. No real pain at all, putting in 900 eyedrops a day is my only complaint.

5 day update, this shit is dope. One complaint: if I do all day at work and then gaming binge I get tired eyes like I used to when I wore contacts for 15 hours. I keep getting the urge to take out my contacts and put on glasses so my eyes can rest but I don't have contacts in.

Hopefully it goes away. I'm doing 900 eye drops a day.

I was off work for a week following my lasik (instead I "worked" in an office).

I couldn't imagine actually needing to use my eyes all week long... and then wanting to game afterward... That would indeed suck.

Once you're done with the medicated drops, it'll get better. the antibacterial drops were really bad for me personally.

Took my wife about a week to get back into using the computer at all for longer than 15 minutes. We basically spent a week living in as much darkness as we could manage, which was helped since I worked nights at the time so our bedroom had light blocking curtains.

It's not a silver bullet, she still has some trouble reading small text at a distance but she maintains it was the best decision she's made in years. And yeah, when she's really tired she still wants to take off her glasses. That muscle memory is probably never going away.

My worry right now before my LASIK is going back to work. I have the procedure on a Thursday and took off that Friday. I plan on going back to work the following Monday, but I work infront of a computer pretty much the whole day. Anyone have any experience with getting LASIK and returning to work that involves sitting infront of a computer a few days later? I have an office so I can adjust the lights, but not sure if it would be good to turn off all the lights and just have the monitors on or not. Would think that would cause more strain?

EDIT: My Sister is unable to really answer this question as she does not spend much time on the computer. My job is basically spent infront of a computer 90% of the day, so I definitely need some voices from people that have experience.

My company just announced our vision plans now cover $2k towards LASIK. Even before that I had been considering it, but haven't done much research. I had mentioned it to my optometrist, and he said once I am ready to give it serious consideration he would recommend me to a specialist. I have astigmatism in both eyes, so I'm not sure all the specifics and if that can be corrected as well.

Anyone with astigmatism have it done?
