My worry right now before my LASIK is going back to work. I have the procedure on a Thursday and took off that Friday. I plan on going back to work the following Monday, but I work infront of a computer pretty much the whole day. Anyone have any experience with getting LASIK and returning to work that involves sitting infront of a computer a few days later? I have an office so I can adjust the lights, but not sure if it would be good to turn off all the lights and just have the monitors on or not. Would think that would cause more strain?

EDIT: My Sister is unable to really answer this question as she does not spend much time on the computer. My job is basically spent infront of a computer 90% of the day, so I definitely need some voices from people that have experience.
Sunglasses. It'll be weird but it's probably the best way to keep the eyestrain down. My wife wore hers when at the computer for at least a couple of weeks. Also frequent breaks. They should give you some sunglasses with your procedure that'll be a bit darker than the normal stuff most people use. You should also temporarily increase the size of things like fonts, anything to make it easier on your eyes as a whole.

My company just announced our vision plans now cover $2k towards LASIK. Even before that I had been considering it, but haven't done much research. I had mentioned it to my optometrist, and he said once I am ready to give it serious consideration he would recommend me to a specialist. I have astigmatism in both eyes, so I'm not sure all the specifics and if that can be corrected as well.

Anyone with astigmatism have it done?
I had astigmatism. Supposedly surgery almost always fixes it, but sometimes they have to go back and do a small correction. My eyesight is good now without glasses, it just isn't super-hero amazing, which I'm hoping will come with time. I also had punctal plugs put in and I haven't had any issues with dry eyes, which is supposedly very common. Can't recommend it highly enough.

I also literally went home, listened to the entire first season of serial in the dark, and went back to normal usage the next day(15 hours in front of a PC). Had no problems.

Got LASIK done this afternoon. Just woke up and able to see amazingly! Not having any light sensitivity at all (and not having any discomfort so far using a monitor).

Has anyone had LASIK on a single eye? My left eye is almost perfect (very slightly short sighted but something like 0.1) but my right is long sighted, the opposite vision types is a real pain in the arse when sat at a computer. Optician reckons glasses pretty much useless unless I start having headaches as it would be such an unbalanced prescription, although I did wear them when younger I haven't worn any for about 20 years. I did try a few years back for PC use but it may no difference and in fact made things worse if anything.

I'm thinking I may just get my right eye done, if this is possible, if I can bring this to close to that of the other one I'm thinking things should be much better, and at half the price too!

I don't know why not. I think they used to do an eye at a time when it was starting out to make sure that people didn't get totally blinded.

You can do one eye. My chart basically had multiple combinations available and left/right far/long was an option.

While I have not had it done yet, I will be doing this early next year. I am getting an enhancement done on my left eye as it has faded more strongly than my right. Since it is my dominant eye they mentioned I may not have to even do a procedure on the right or could wait.

I had LASIK done in 2000, had astigmatism. I don't recall what my vision was beforehand, but I definitely needed glasses for work, driving, etc. After the procedure, I had 20/15 vision for about 3 years, settled in at 2020 and still at that 15 years later. It was expensive back then, I think I paid close to 4k, but it has paid for itself by not having to buy contacts, glasses, cleaning products, etc. Was working the day after, best purchase I've ever made, by far!

Signed up for scuba classes and apparently i can either wear gas permeable contacts or get goggles to my prescription (which i don't like because if they're not on i'm blind) probably going to dump my HSA savings and get this done asap

Well worth it and I am just 24 hours after getting it done. I am not having any light sensitivity issues, no halos, and dryness is minimal. I may be an uncommon case, but so far, I am not having any of the (short term) side-effects. The only unpleasant thing I have is the Pred Forte eye-drops leave a very metallic and nasty taste in my mouth a few minutes after taking the drops.

Stop eating them!
Haha! There are some mediciations that taken via the eye allows you to actually taste them in the back of your mouth, this being one of them. My sister said a lot of her patients have similar reactions to this stuff and it is quite disgusting tasting when it hits you. Takes about 3-4 minutes then you'll swallow and get a full-fledged taste of it. Was a very "wtf" moment when it first happened.

Is there anything besides some elements of the military that covers lasik?
If you're a surgeon at a hospital, most local LASIK places will offer it to them for free just to say "the place the doctors go." It is pretty affordable now as my place was offering 24-month no-interest financing through CareCredit.

Yea, I'll probably do something like that soon. There's like 4 lasik places within a half hour of each other near me, so I can probably haggle a little.

Had my first follow-up today with my sister. I am 20/15 and healing up nicely, said I was one of the best "next day" (mine was actually 2 days) she's seen in terms of healing and overall quality of the procedure. She made a funny comment about them taking extra special care of me because she refers quite a lot of her patients to this LASIK place so they made sure to go extra lengths for her brother.

I had a terrible experience in the shower this morning however. I think I got some shampoo in my right eye and holy hell did it sting like a fiery inferno.

Then you have to moisturize your head, which will then get into your eye, and burn like a fiery volcano.

Or your scalp gets irritated because you don't and turns into one big puffy ingrown hair at the base of your skull. Also your head will be cold. Fuck that guy, don't do it.
