Its a skill matchup. If garen flubs his silence then he loses the trade. If he lands it then he wins the trade. Only Rengar (post his nerfs prob not) and J4 actually have stronger level 2-3 all ins then Riven. Other then that Riven at worst has a couple of farm matchups, and she doesn't straight up lose to anyone else assuming comparable skill.

Don't stifle me man! That's why I'm posting in this thread. Perspective.
Yes perspective. In lower leagues, too much weight is placed on counters. There's a common occurrence in champ select chat. It goes like this: "let me play [this champ] so I can counter [their champ]." The team consensus is typical approval. The problem with this is the person wanting to pick a counter usually blows at that champ that's supposed to counter. This usually results in the counter pick losing the lane because the opponent has adversely picked someone they know how to play.

If you have been counter picked, it's very possible to keep the lane even by playing passive or simply outplaying....keeping a mind for skill CDs, summoners, a visit from your jungler, minion waves, etc. In cases you are getting the bad end of a trade, you are better being safe and missing out on some CS and basing more frequently than giving your opponent snowball potential from kills.

Good post from Plaid. Case in point is I've been playing a ton of WW top lately and the last couple of days I've had to face four Renektons. Renekton being the monster lane bully is considered a very bad matchup for WW because your sustain and trade kills your mana so fast. But because I've learned the laning flow for WW I just work around the trades and fall a little behind in farm. Once I come back to lane with that first buy lifesteal and maybe a giants belt the Renekton who is so confidant of his bully potential ends up getting dumpstered.

Yeah it was definitely like that in season 3, but I got placed in silver (lol) after my placements and I get flamed alot when I use a non-meta counterpick (e.g. mid lane Vi against Kassadin or Yasuo)

Experience with a champion >>>> counter picks. If you're good enough with a champion, being counter picked is rarely relevant.

Apparently Jungle Kayle is a thing now.
Its been a thing, jungle Gragas is better for AP jungles though. Kayle is one of those fun champs that goes out of style and then someone realises that her ult and burst is always going to be really really good. So... then we get a couple months of Kayle dominance where they nerf anything but her ult and we all forget about her until 3-6 months have gone by and someone else shows the kayle power again.

Yep. Individual skill and understanding the matchups can overcome being 'countered'.

As far as really unconventional picks though, I try to avoid them because it just causes friction with the team before the game even starts, and if you don't deliver then morale is just going to spiral down even further. I've said it before, but half of Solo Queue is just getting along with 4 random people for 30~ minutes.

Like I said, they'll nerf everything but the ult. When the ult is the real reason that she will always be good. You can always find a way to build someone so they put out respectable damage. Hell look at gutted AP ratio Ali and he can still be played mid to the point where you get LB/DFG and one shot the enemy squishies.

knew my promos were going bad when i lost my 1st 4 games. waas silver 4 at end of S3, went 5-5 in promo and came out in bronze 1, 0 points. lost 3 straight games and thought i'd be dropped to B2 but wasn't. climbed back and won my 1st series back into silver, praise Xenu.

there's a good bit of rage, didn't seem that much worse that silver (was as high as S2 failing promos to S1). remembered my mute button and started winning more. i think some of my guys in promo wanted to lose. they wouldn't feed but would jsut roam and never talk yet they talked in lobby. run from team fights, etc.

My promos back to gold were filled with shit. First game had a troll ass pre-made who went Ahri/Xin Bot Lane. Forcing Sivir to go mid and get destroyed by LeBlanc. I did go 8/2 as Udyr though that game. But whatever. Next two games had me playing ADC, but top and mid didn't do so well. Oh well TRY AGAIN.

I've been dealing with truckloads of shit lately in this game. Been hovering in Silver 2/3 and most of my groups are made of S3 Gold players. Even still, I've had TONS of teams where a player intentionally feeds, wants to lose, picks a role that's already been picked, and other bullshit.

Yesterday I think I played 5 games.
I actually had fate on my side once and was playing a team where 1 player was intentionally feeding us. A Yasuo that just kept running into our team to die and then he afk'd on his team saying "that should be good enough for a loss". This was great for me because the day before I had a player on my team, a Rengar, that decided to do the same exact shit. Our Jungler tried ganking his lane and ended up dying. Because of the ONE death our Rengar flew off the handle and said "I hope you fucking die IRL. I want you to lose this game. etc etc." He ended up going 0-16 and we did lose, but it was actually kinda close and we nearly won the 4v6.

Another game yesterday, my 5th and last of the day, I am 2nd pick and pick Yasuo to go top lane (mid was already picked). I then afk to get a drink and come back to the game just starting. I walk to our blue buff to assist our jungler... except we have no jungler. Apparently our 4th pick decided he would top lane, too, as Fiora. We were both against a Nasus.

We literally had nobody jungle all game, though once laning phase was over I would clean up the free buffs. We won our lane and I easily outfarmed the Fiora. She had 20 CS while I had 60. The Nasus was outleveling us but we won the lane and even Nasus had less CS than just myself. I 1v1'd the Nasus easily. Nasus was REALLY BAD though, he built AP and was really squishy. It was a tough game and our mid-laner kept wanting to quit but between myself and bottom lane we were able to carry it for a win. Luckily I had a really STRONG bot lane. The Fiora was practically useless. A big turning point in the game was when I was split pushing and ended up killing 3 enemy players by myself as they came to defend 1 by 1. Once that happened my team pushed for an inhib and then it was all downhill from there.

So much bullshit though. Fuck. I've already been promoted and then demoted from Silver 2 like 3x already this season. If I can just get a nice streak of bullshit-free games I could reclaim gold rather easily.

Ya failed promos to gold twice already. Back in them again and am 2-1... too nervous to play the last 2 games. Seems like I stomp all the way to promos and then my team is shit or the other team is filled with diamond players from last season that have tanked their rating to stomp. Ugh. Been a struggle each time for sure.

I understand the counter picking discussion... but for mid and top it really is important. You don't have tohard counter but at least pick something that can survive. Tired of seeing teemo picked into pantheon...

Also..only bad thing about the LCS... copycats. I've had a ton of pantheon jungles lately

Still a new lvl 30, but why do people tank games?

There is no reason but here's my assumption:

I'm playing with mostly Season 3 Gold players. These players are now Silver 2-5.
1.) Some players think they are "too good for silver" and don't care if they lose a game or 2 because they assume they'll get Gold easily "when they want to".
2.) Some players NEED to carry their games otherwise they feel the game isn't worth playing. They have too much pride to be carried in a Silver game.
3.) Some players feel "defeated" after ending up in Silver so they just don't care anymore.
4.) They are all fuckheads.

There are people throwing games intentionally to try and land in bronze as well, for the lols or some easy games or whatever. Which is misguided, since you'll be in bronze with almost the same MMR you had in S3. So you'll be bronze fighting against gold/plat/diamond or whatever players trying to increase your rank. Have to throw games for AGES to drop MMR from gold+ to bronze, it's almost faster to just make a new account and tank its MMR (which is what some streamers do actually).
