I've been playing DOTA for about 1.5 years now, but I recently installed this, and it's a fun change of pace.

Here are heroes I like playing in DOTA (99.99 percent I play support.)

Necro
Crystal Maiden
Witch Doctor
Dazzle
Rubick
etc in that vein

Anyone who plays both games, what else might I like in LOL?

I've bought a couple of supports already. The two I like most are Blitzcrank and Sona. I've only played like 8 games so far. Blitzcrank kicks ass, haven't lost with him in like 4 games, and I was 10 and 1 last game or something. I queue as support bottom lane, but to be honest I haven't quite yet figured out what makes me a support, unlike the hard supports in DOTA. I mean I guess having the stun on Blitz is support-y, and the heal on Sona. I'm just so new to the game I haven't quite figured the items yet or anything. I just buy what's recommended.

What makes you a support is the idea that you won't get any farm because you will be babysitting your ADC. Also most "supports" either have some form of healing/initiation/disengage with no real damage. They are there to help the ADC get a kill or save the ADC from getting killed and later on this applies to the entire team. You will also 99% of the time be the only person on your team to get a Sightstone (which has 4 charges of wards that you can set down and resets when you go the fountain) Most of the supports even if you built them full damage do not compare in damage to your carries (whether it be top/mid/adc/jungle). Hopefully that makes sense.

Support is about getting ADC fed and keeping the map warded. Mostly.

If you like blitz you'll be well served on Thresh and Leona. Sona is kind of in a weird spot bot lane, almost always better to take Janna/Nami instead.

This early on in the game though it will be tough for you to really min max your champion pool so just play what's fun til you get a better idea.

Support is the lane where you pretend to do what is expected for six or seven minutes and then transition into your real strategy once laning ends.

Unless you take a mid lane bottom like Annie/Zyra/Xerath - then you take frost dagger and go for kills all lane phase.

That's what I do most of the time. Majais baby!

You'd probably like Thresh, Nami, and probably some of the mages (Annie, Vel'Koz) people play as support based on who you said you like in DOTA. Being a mage support is way more complicated sometimes though and a lot more feast or famine in my experience.

I used to play a lot of Sona but she seems to be just a worse version of Nami at the moment. She can't poke/pully a lane like she used to and she's so fucking squishy.

Also Fnatic is carrying me in Fantasy. I did not expect this.
They are doing pretty well but you better be watching these next 2 games to see how close our match will be.
After Day 1 all of my Euros outperformed each of yours role-for-role. Time for Elements and then UoL to play. UoL vs SK gonna be good

Supports in LoL generally have 2 flavors. sustain. or lockdown. one, keeps the ADC alive, patching up poke damage, and may buff. the other tries to zone, draw fire, and at the key moments use stuns to isolate and secure an easy target for the ADC and/or jungle gank.
sona is still beast. ezmode honestly. the only thing really that sets good sonas from bad is making use of the speed buff aura well.
She has great skins too.
arcade sona 95% win ratio I think.

Nami is very strong. I have no idea why they killed my beloved Soraka, when nami is around.

Leona is pretty beast now, with item changes, and meta changes. strong lane bully.

Thinking about it I think I can explain supports a little better than I did.

ADCs are so powerful in League of Legends that they literally get their own companion that follows them around, protects them, takes the hits, doesn't farm, and uses what little gold they do have to light up the map around the ADC.

SK looking veerrrry impressive. Freddy probably best top laner in EU imo There really isn't a weak lane for SK.

It's between he and Huni I think. Huni pulls so much attention because he's pretty much bullied all his lane opponents so far. Rolling with SK/Fnatic in fantasy seems legit.

Freddy's Kennan might start a trend. He wrecked face with those ults.
