Honestly, I don't think we are the weakest. EU is likely going to do terrible given the language barriers (Diamond's english is pretty bad) and lack of practice time (sOAZ and Yellowpete were having visa problems and JUST got to China). I also think we stand a chance against China. NA has spent the last week at the Curse house practicing together and seem like they are working pretty well together. Clearly Korea will take the whole thing, but don't think we're going to do as badly as originally expected.

I would love to be pleasantly surprised and at least win one round.

This, I would like for us to pull out at least one win because all the bets are for us to get shut out. I still have my cinderella hopes because I grew up in New England and.... well... yeah.


edit: in unrelated news, my clamping isn't that bad in gold1. Getting 20-30 point for wins/losses.

Also, they are doing all these 1v1 and 2v2 competitions beforehand, they are bringing out Magma Chamber to preview it. Should be pretty interesting as well.

I have been watching some Taiwan VoDs lately since there's nothing new in EU or NA, and then I got to thinking. NA probably does have a better chance then I thought, as our guys are more about individual skill and the asian teams work better as teams. It's why they tend to beat us so much, they seem to think together and anticipate each other's moves more.
When you break up their team and throw in a few randoms from other teams, even if they don't have any ego/personality clashes, they still won't be used to playing together as well. So, it'll come down to who is winning their lanes early more than team synergy, which is how NA guys play (normally, this is a hindrance in competitive play).

I think the korean team might do worse then expected since they have the most teams making up their team. Taiwan, EU and China all have 3 people from the same team, which helps. But, as said before, EU will likely have communication issues. I still think it's Taiwan's to lose, as Taipei Asssasins and Singapore Sentinels are their two best teams and they practice against each other already. Sentinels are the only team that has beaten TPA between last GPL season and the current one (which just started). I wouldn't be surprised to see NA win against anyone but them, though.

I think EU players are much better than US players, however they will be facing a big communication problem (having 3 from Moscow5/Gambit does help).
I agree that it's Taiwan's game to lose, but i expect US players to do better than anticipated.

It will be really interesting to see how DoubleLift will do with a "real team" at his side, because let's face it he's the only threat in CLG.
Link is good, but he's not the one to make or break a game with crazy plays (like Alex / Scarra / Toyz)

Also, I feel the other teams seem more motivated than us...but maybe that is just me.

That is kinda dumb, they should hold one for 30's only. Having a full runepage and a full mastery setup is devastating compared to having nothing.

If we got entered then we'd be motivated, Im sure, but I already knew it was kinda a long shot anyway. There was no reason to get all hyped up and have practices before knowing if we'd be in. 128 teams might seem like a lot, but with millions playing the game I'm sure a whole bunch of teams entered. The fact there was no restrictions on rank/level or anything meant it would be very difficult to enter. They do not even require players to be level 30.

Edit: I just watched that tower dive and ace in game 2, I don't give a fuck if they win or lose anymore. Risky throws are fucking pointless.

So, even after more than a year of having pro gamers in NA and EU they still got raped. Why are the asian teams so much better and what can NA and EU do to compete?
