i`m curious about what the payment structure is in twitch. how much money do people make per viewer and how many viewers do you need to earn a decent income? i've heard people making like 60k/year for those who can bring in like 5-10k viewers (i.e the most popular lol/SC2 streamers.)

but chaox getting booted off TSM may have been the best thing to happen to him financially. at least in the short term.

Depends on their contract, but from what I gather they can make anywhere from like 5-20 dollars per thousand people watching an ad.

It's closer to $2.5-$3.5 USD per thousand impressions; vast majority are towards the lower end of that range. It's honestly not worth it full time unless you can sustain 3-5k viewers on average through out the day. Most money comes from personal sponsorships, subscriptions, and referral links to shops, etc.

I heard the payout will cap per day for twitch. Towelie a wow stream said he makes abut 5-8k a month with about ~2000 ppl watching + subs + donations + sponsors.

Makes sense, I did a quick google search and what I posted is what I could find. I suppose it is throw away money considering they are pretty much going to stream regardless. Certainly interesting though.

If this maths is true then streamers like Voyboy, TheOddOne, and WingsofDeath, whio consistently pull 20k+ viewers, are making $50-70 per ad. Assuming an average of two ads per hour, that's $100-140 an hour from advertisements. Assuming 30 hours per week, that's $12k+ per month. If this figure doesn't include subscriptions, of which each streamer has hundreds, then their monthly totals are higher. These are staggering numbers for playing a video game for a living.

That said, these three are easily the top .1% of twitch streamers. And no clue whether adblock is factored into these numbers.

Adblock has a huge affect, streamers like Voyboy and Phantomlord consistently talk about adblock. I believe Voyboy will ban anyone bragging about using it and Phantomlord tells viewers with adblock to open a 2nd browser that doesn't have adblock enabled to help the streamer still. numbers get thrown around a lot but it's quite staggering how many use adblock, easily 1/3rd the viewers or more.

Streamers usually show 3 ads between games. Figure a low end figure of $2 per 1.5k viewers (factoring in adblock viewers), and figure 3 ads per hour since a game is ~40mins and queue times at high elo are 15min+. That's $6/hr for 1.5k viewers. A streamer with 20k viewers would make more like $80/hr.

Man.. I haven't been watching all the gamecrib episodes, but I had to watch the last one. Best episode I've seen so far, and sheds more light on Chaox leaving. I knew about his tardiness, but didn't think the whole team all felt pretty much the same about Turtle, figured it was mainly Regi's decision.

If it were just a performance thing, Chaox probably would have rotated to sub, but his conflicts with Regi forced him to kick him from the team. You see it in professional sports a lot, if a player's attitude is toxic to the team, they go. Chaox might be a better player than Wildturtle (though I think right now, momentum is behind Turtle) but the team as a whole was stagnating. This is the influx of energy they need, imo. I actually have a bit more respect for Regi right now after watching the episode, he did go around and get everyone's input first and made an executive decision. Kicking him out of the house immediately might seem callous, but you don't want someone undermining the team's morale hanging around either. They paid for his flight, they will still give him premium placement on TSM's website when he streams, they are helping him find a new team etc.. Really, they are doing a lot to help him through the transition. I think this is a wakeup call to Chaox to take things more seriously and he'll be better in the long run as a result.

Also, when Dyrus was crying at the end and hugging Chaox.. 'you were my best friend of the four'. awww.. the feels man, the feels.

Chaox's stream is actually featured as well on the front page of Solomid.net right now...so they certainly aren't trying to hold him down or make him out as bad or whatever.

It all worked out but I still question Regi's legal authority to evict someone from their place of residence in a single day.

And I really don't think Chaox is going to be better for this. His first day streaming after getting bounced he had 30k viewers and donations rolling in. He's got a history of ego problems and that kind of turnout from the community is going to insulate him from change.

Isn't the whole evicting thing assuming that you actually own the property or signed some kind of lease deal stating you have the right to live there? To me it is more of a I own the house and I am letting my friend live here for the time being. No idea how they have the house set up though.

Chaox might have been able to fight the eviction and stayed longer but I really doubt he wanted to since he was removed from the team. They paid for his flight and he had somewhere to go, and Dan Dinh even said they were willing to put him up somewhere for a few weeks if he had wanted. So I don't really see it as that big of a deal considering he didn't try to fight it.

I'm not saying that I think that Chaox should have done any of that and I think he was treated just fine. It's just something that stood out to me because I'm an angry cuss and would have instantly taken the position that I'm not leaving my residence on one day's notice thank you very much. I've got to get my affairs in order and while it might be a little awkward that's just how it is.

I'm just all about not thinking and making a situation worse.

Thats reasonable under normal conditions - But he hadnt exactly planted roots in the area. The only reason he was there was no longer present. Im sure they would have handled things differently if he didnt have any other option.

Evicting in 1 day is illegal pretty much anywhere, it just isn't in his best interest to fight it.
It is a pain in the butt to evict a tenant and even a squatter in California where the TSM gaming house is. During the great recession a bank paid my friend like 5k to go quite while being evicted from his defunct apartment. Telling someone they have 3 hours to leave is downright criminal.

"3 hours to leave" is bullshit Chaox made up. They bought a plane ticket at his request that left him there for another 3 hours. He is milking this situation for all he can get financially.
