with immature self obsessed passive narcissistic ego complexes ultimately driven from their creators who use anime as a means of fulfilling their self indulgent fantasies of themselves...mainly to be Justin Beiber mixed with the Crow. Notice how every series has a main character that the show talks about obsessively, even when the main character isn't there the sub characters talk about the main character--as if they exist solely to perpetuate the main characters legend, and if they're insulting the main character, its never a critical deconstruction of his bull shit "tortured soul complex" it's always something misconstrued, because they just don't understand him!!!! Might as well just approach a Japanese man and ask him to masturbate into a crayola box, because that's all your getting, some Japanese guys mental spunk with their generic perception of human beauty, which is basically boy girls with big eyes, and V chin lines.

If anime wanted to be more respected it probably should've chosen something less retarded than Inuyasha to broadcast on Cartoon Network for the last 10 years of my life.
KAGOME!!!!!!

That is all I know about this show.

I don't even know if I spelled that right.

Edit: I just looked it up and I spelled it right, but anime really does suck.

KAGOME!!!!!!
Yep. And reminder, Inuyasha looks completely fucking retarded, carries a sword that weighs four times as much as he does, he's a half "demon" which makes him cool, and the female lead in the series is 15 years old.

Anime is art, guys!

Watching Inuyasha and then stopping is like watching all of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but instead of ever watching another program you post about how all American TV is fucking bad.

If you haven't watched at least the first 5 episodes of Death Note, your opinion on anime is invalid.

The anime, not the live action movie.

The fact that it is a cartoon notwithstanding, anime tends to suffer from too high concept (or batshit crazy) of ideas for it to be more mainstream. Maybe this makes sense or someone else can do a better job explaining, but to me traditionally popular American cartoons are either based on an established IP (your Marvel and DC animated shows), mostly reality based (Simpsons, King of the Hill, Family Guy, American Dad), or firmly planted in fantasy (Warner Bros, Ren and Stimpy, Alvin and the Chipmunks). Those are kind of the categories I'd broadly lump them in and argue that general audiences can tolerate the concepts enough to make them popular in mainstream culture.

Anime, while there are absolutely mainstream modern sedated stories, usually has way too much crazy shit, introspection, or philosophical undertones that people just won't latch on to en masse. It has a very negative connotation in day to day conversation because of the stigma of the anime freaks, tentacle fucking, excess use of neoteny.... some of that shit is just weird man.

It is all a comfort thing and a lot of people just aren't comfortable with what anime seems to represent.

You aren't going to convince 30-40 year olds that watching anime does not make you gay. Everyone in America was raised on the idea that watching cartoons was for children and if you did so after you hit the age of 12-15 you enjoyed the company of penis. I remember friends in the 5th grade who loved all kinds of cartoons but when they started 6th? Oh man, that shit was for kids and if you watched cartoons you didn't get to be an adult.

Archer, South Park, The Simpsons, American Dad, Futurama, etc. There are plenty of good cartoons that adults can enjoy. I've harped on this enough at this point, though. I guess people who enjoy anime are just getting something out of it that I'm missing. I probably just don't get it. To me, most of it seems like a low(er)brow, animated version of the Matrix, sans humor.

I like anime, but I try to keep an unbiased view on it. Most of it is shit to people who don't like anime. Death note as an example is an anime and won't appeal to people who don't like anime. The list of anime that can appeal to everyone is almost exclusively limited to some specific movies. TV shows that could have appeal to people who normally don't like anime: Shingeki no Kyojin and possibly cowboy bebop. Its really hard for me to think of even one more series I'd recommend to non anime watchers. A few could possibly work with standard audiences. Shiki as an example is a show i think could really work with audiences that typically don't like anime, the story is very good and extremely different from most animes. That said, it looks extremely anime on the outside and people who think they don't like anime won't easily be talked into giving it a try.

Death note is good, but it certainly won't change the minds of someone who hates anime, since it is a veryanimeanime

You've just cherry picked the most current top 5's that most anyone would say when asked "what are good american cartoons on tv right now?" expand that list to top 10 and see where the gems lie.

hell what are most of us saying in the current archer thread? this current season isn't great, but it's still better than most cartoons anyway. i don't watch any cartoons/animation other than archer/south park so i cannot comment on the state of cartoons but i'm sure for every south park, there is a "my little pony" or whatever brony shit is out there.

in my experience, the fundamental problem with anime is the language, american dubbing is really disgusting, play any final fantasy x/x2/xii/xiii/xiii-2/xiii-3 and you'll know. the white ppl who do the dubbing, try to imitate japanese voices when they dub, wtf...

and then there's sub-titles with original japanese voices. a lot of white ppl can't read subtitles fast enough, so they end up missing half the story and confused, this is why a lot of white ppl can't appreciate foreign films in other languages, cuz they're slow readers and only grasp half the story.
