Anyway this situation really sucks but I don't see a ton of options either. At most I could see some missile / drone strikes but I'm not sure we really want to even go there. There are some places you just don't want to play war unless your really serious about escalation. Getting involved just outside the Russian border carries a lot of risk and very little gain.

Short of Russia pulling a Germany in some retarded land grab to take back the Union's old territory we really should mind our own business. Not like we really have any moral high ground here. We've been smacking our dick around third world shit holes for the last decade toppling governments and doing what ever the fuck we want.

It seems like a show-down with Russia is inevitable. A proxy war fought in Ukraine seems like a much better idea than a direct conflict with Russia.

this will be easily deniable by russia as the actions of a rogue terrorist and of course he will have been killed or his family threatened so russia will be able to maintain their bullshit story. the fact is even if this was a BIG MISTAKE or some bullshit that they were going for a military transport, the fact they know commercial aircraft flies through this area tells them they willfully shot it down with little care on what it is they were aiming at. as the general said. nothing gets through their airspace. dont expect obummer to do anything either. fucker is heading to marthas vineyeard for 2 weeks so fuck everyone. also 23 dead americans is not important when 23 new "americans" just snuck across the border as i write this. unless of course they were 23 gay black women who vote democrat on that plane, then all hell is about to break loose. we may even get a scowl from obummer. better watch out for that scowl, putin!

We seem to be spiraling toward Cold War style sanctions. And the rest of Nato, the UN, the G7, and whoever else you want to add better get behind the sanctions. It will cripple Russia far more than it did during the cold war, because I don't think even China will bail them out at this point. They'll be alone, and it will hurt. Badly.

If it's a splinter group, and Russia can reasonably deny culpability, drone attacks seem most likely to me. Sanctioned drone attacks that will not create lash-back.

I know this gets brought up every time something significant happens, but it is just amazing how quickly information travels in the modern world. 20 years ago it would have been days before we had all of the information we have now about this.
