Those people aren't friends. They are acquaintances and people you know through other people. They are not your friends. They aren't the people you call up to go see a movie. You don't go over to your brother's house to hang out with his wife and play video games. You don't go hunting with your friend's stripper girlfriend. They are just people you know and act civil towards. If I consider someone a friend (a real friend now, not just someone I know) it's because they have positive qualities that lead me to want to spend time with them, engage in joint activities with them, have discussions with, and so on.

If you are hanging around with someone because you like to hang around with them, because you genuinely consider them a friend and would do things for them and they would do things for you, those kind of feelings get muddled together with romantic feelings if you are a guy.

Friendzoning is a different thing entirely.

I'm not saying that at all.

I'm saying that some men are so damaged socially (and therefore spend lots of time online gaming) that they may only have contact with very few women so any desire for sexual relationships will be projected onto them. This will only frustrate the man and give him a negative view of women if he is unsuccessful in changing her mind. It could also possibly waste energy they could be using on finding someone actually available if they end up spending lots of time with their female friends. So they shouldn't be friends with women if possible until their other issues are solved, especially since the man and the woman both want different things from the relationship.

Addiction is a physical condition. There are symptoms of addiction that can be observed and measured. Whether or not someone admits to being addicted to drugs may have nothing to do whatsoever with whether or not they are addicted.

Empowerment is a state of mind determined entirely by the one being empowered. If a porn star feels that the work she does empowers her, then nothing you or any third person could say would change the fact that, for her, being in porn is empowering. So yeah, when it comes to empowerment there's literally no time a third party observation matters.
