Think it has to do with just not being shitty parents. Shitty people are more likely to divorce and just be shittier after it poisoning their kids against each other.

I was raised by mom as my dad ended up divorcing her right as I was born and I turned out about as well as one can. Of course she was a great mother and always put me first and never tried to poison me against him or instill any bad values.

This selection bias has to be a big factor with the aggregate statistics. (No, I'm not saying that all divorced people are shitty. It seems obvious that shitty people are more likely to both get divorced and be lousy parents, though.)

I've lucked out with my two older kids. My ex and I don't get along but we try to be on the same page with the kids. I've had to bring her back to reality a few times but overall things are okay. My two kids do good in school, my daughter has a learning disability that was just finally diagnosed this year (shes 13) and my oldest is 16 and has been honor roll all year the last two years. Both are well adjusted and I have fantastic relationships with both.

I read my sons chat logs awhile ago on facebook and he was telling friends how great of a dad I was and how hard I've tried over the years to always be there for them. Shit made me sob like a baby.

Haha, my dad the other day got real serious and told me how proud he was of the man I've become and stuff, ended up with us both crying. It was out of the blue, but a moment I'm sure I'm always going to remember.

Why are you reading chat logs

Because I’m a proactive father and makes sure his kids aren’t doing things in social media they shouldn’t be?

I usually just skim a few things every month or so just to make sure everything is in the up and up, that’s he’s okay and again, not doing things they shouldn’t be.

At the end of this year he will have his passwords changed to whatever he wants them to he and will have total privacy with it.

He just turned 16. Just before he turns 17 he will have total privacy on it...maybe sooner.

He’s been fine on it after he was caught sending nudes at 15 and his principal called me about it cause the girls friends went to the school about it (she also sent them to him).

My wife is gonna want to do that and we will fight about it

Yeah man, after I almost had to pay for my sons legal representation over exchanging nudes with a younger minor he lost his right to not being monitored.

Facepalm all you want but he also hurt himself due to depression when he was 14 and it was only though reading his social media I was able to find out the extent of it and got him the help he needed and now he’s great.

Wanna he a blind parent concerning social media? Cool, to me it’s beyond ignorant, more so with how much things will change when your kids are older.

We will see how you feel when the cops come knocking on your door over it.

Social media is terrible. I will be all over my daughter's participation in it and will severely limit said participation. Unfortunately for my daughter, I'm always current on all the latest tech, web stuff.

Exactly. I don’t go all nazi about it but I do keep tabs.

From the sounds of Tarrant, he's had a few compelling reasons to keep tabs on it. As a former "really, really bad but also pretty smart kid", I can tell you right now that smart kids don't give their parents compelling reasons to doubt them or mistrust them. I really don't find issue keeping tabs on their online behavior, especially before they are teenagers.

I was left in the wild wild west of the Internet when I was 13 and I turned out fine. Even posted my dick a few places

I told my son he’d probably be able to change his stuff later this year and he shrugged it off and said it didn’t matter. He trusts me and he knows if anything is in there it’s between he and I and we talk about it and he’s fine with it.

We are best friends, but he knows I’m a father first and he’s cool with it. He’s turned into a great young man.

Hope he doesn’t accept pics of young girls at 15 and you get busted because you’re responsible for what’s in their computers since your the adult and are now in possession of child porn. (Especially if you’re all in the same network)

And yes, that can happen. thats what I almost had to go to court over.
