Because people would intentionally under-employ themselves to get out of child support payments, rationalizing “fuck that bitch” and “I’d rather not work than give it to her”. This is not in the best interests of the child. The court’s only driving motivation is the best interests of the child. So you can go the fuck to work, or you can become completely credit-destroyed and insolvent by ignoring child support.
I don’t disagree with the principle involved there, but as always, there’s a lot of human error and stupidity involved in extreme cases.
That's a good point. I know someone whose ex wife moved to Texas because they had the highest child support requirements. He is a good, upstanding guy that was already taking care of his kid. I often measure such things with him as a metric, forgetting how many people just plain shirk all responsibility.
