Reason #50 I have no motivation to date.

Theres this coworker who I had a slight interest in. Asked her for her number little over a week ago and she gave it to me. So last monday she texts me asking how my weekend went. I tell her how I almost had to take out my concealed carry pistol because some 20 something dude randomly got aggressive with me and clearly wanted to get physical with me but thankfully didnt. The only reason I told her this to her was because before she had mentioned before she was interested in buying a firearm herself, for protection. I thought shes comfortable with firearms and it would give her a good reason why having a firearm is a good thing.

The response I got from her was the exact opposite of what I expected. After telling her what happened she responded by saying "Im sorry you felt that way but taking out your gun would have needlessly escalated the situation". That kind of ended the conversation right there as I really didnt know how to respond to something so nonsensical. Well yesterday comes and Im in her office setting up a workstation for a new employee and she joking brings up the topic. This time we get into a serious conversation about it and essentially she thinks I was wrong for not considering what issues the aggressive guy may be dealing with to cause him to be aggressive. I told her not to gaslight or victim blame me and that its crazy to not put your safety over that of random people who are very clearly a threat to yours.

It genuinely blew me away this woman had more empathy and understanding for some rando aggressive man than me whose shes worked with and gotten to know for 7-8 months.

This follows reason #49 which happened 2-3 months ago.

Got a woman's number off bumble I think. Talk to her for a day or two, shes pretty into me very flirty almost like shes wanting to hook up more than actually date. Thursday night I ask her if she wants to go get a drink saturday at 7. She says yes. Friday night comes and she says where are we going to get a drink. My male brain kicks in and seeing as how she lives about 40ish minutes away from me I do what I think is the appropriate thing and say "Why dont you pick out a place near you since youre a bit of a drive from me". She did not like that response, says she doesnt know any place near her. So I tell her well I know places by me that are good to get one if youre up for driving to my side of town. She says thats fine.

She follows that up with asking if I want to get something to eat. I tell her no, for a first date I prefer to just get a drink. She really didnt like that and quickly gets off the phone with me. She immediately sends me a text saying shes looking for a masculine man whose confident, that it felt like she was having to plan the date and it turned her off. I tell her okay if thats the way she feels theres a personality mismatch and think thats the end of it. Well she then proceeds to spend the next hour texting me over and over essentially begging to go get a drink with her. Eventually she finally figures out Im no longer interested in her and stops messaging me. That wasnt the end of it though, a week later after not having texted her she randomly texts me a picture of her tits asking if I still wanted to get a drink. I ignored it.

Also, you just tell them we're doing this, or give 2 choices tops. Plan it or it's not happening.

Normally yeah I name a time and a place but didnt this time figuring she wouldnt mind due to the distance. I undestand not finding that appealing.

Wtf thing was her reaction after. She even asked if it was because of money and that she would pay if that was the case.

What the fuck. I'm not even gonna touch the stupidity of the 'i almost had to waste some dude' interaction but the second one isn't that hard to parse. After you bungled the initial assertiveness check she clearly expected some apologetic nice guy whining in response to her dismissal but you reversed the situation by expressing a modicum of self-respect. Except you pissed away the new chance you'd earned for yourself because you've got one of the worst cases of unicorn syndrome ever documented.

As a basic rule, I would stay away from any politically charged topics unless you have dated a person for a while and it has the potential to be more. If you do not care about the person, then it does not matter. If you were serious about the date, then hold back on such subjects. It was a learning lesson that hopefully you now understand. A real red flag is when they actually just start asking your opinion on gun rights and abortion right out of the gate. You can have a date without religion and politics.

The responses to your stories are a good example of why I think men are getting better, and women are getting way worse.

I don't think you made any enormous fuckups, just a couple ill-advised choices. Then you get a bunch of dudes telling you that you fucked up and to fix it. Girls are the exact opposite and never try to correct the behavior of their friends. They reinforce it no matter what, right or wrong.

And I think your attitude and thought process about the concealed carry stuff is correct, but casually talking about it to someone in that context IS a bit of a red flag. Her viewpoint was fucking retarded, though.

Edit: and the other girls comments about wanting a decisive man that picks the date is like a universal truth that I've struggled with too. I legit don't give a shit most of the time so I'm fine with letting them pick, but most girls don't like it (except the mountain biking champ lesbian I fucked around with once). Nowadays, I tend to go with the flow UNTIL a girl says a comment along those lines. After that, i get bossy and tell them what we're doing and to get fucked if they don't like it, reminding them that they wanted me to be this way.
