I distinctly remember Grumpus asking about marrying some chick he was with for like 6 months. Is this the same chick? Am I thinking of a different forum member entirely?

Do what feels right to you man. We're very cynical here, so you have to cherry pick advice. Just don't fuck up.

Do you guys live together yet? I would move in for a year before I popped the question, personally. People change when they move in together. You find things about that person that you hate that you never even knew existed. Just my two cents.

Have you not noticed this happening? There is a ton of wannabe-nerd stuff in pop culture nowadays. Big Bang Theory is leading the charge. Betas is the same shit. We've seen slovenly "nerds" spamming their fingers across a keyboard in movies for two decades now. Every procedural has the sexy "nerd" on the team now.
"I was a nerd before it was cool"

Fucking hipsters.

To your point, what I've noticed is the things that used to define us as nerds becoming more mainstream, but all that means is that we were ahead of the curve. Nobody puts a zelda reference on the enduring symbol of their eternal love for their spouse unless they like zelda. There is no one just pretending that much.

Young people don't really have a personality yet so they try to manufacture one by declaring themselves a (insert stereotype here) and then trying to act like they think one of those people would act.
You say that like it's a bad thing. *heads out the door to get a Black Flag tattoo*

Tomorrow is the big one year anniversary. Since it's a Monday and we work it kind of sucks so we spent the weekend celebrating. On Saturday we went to the movies to see GotG again as she missed most of the movie on our first time due to her mother being rushed to the hospital. She loved it. Today we went to the Newport, RI Cliff Walk and brought our dog. Spent a few hours walking around, taking pictures, having fun. It's one of our first date locations as well as the spot I proposed, so it has some special meaning. Now I'm baking something for her as she fell asleep early. I won't get laid as the ol' period decided to hit yesterday, but that's alright. Gave her the gifts today so we could spend tomorrow just going out to eat and hanging out together - she especially loved the Kindle paperwhite.

All in all a good weekend. Still married as of 8/17/14.

So what, she left to go to her mother, and you stayed and saw the rest of the movie?

Wow. I think you did ok. There's no way that's ever going to be brought up in a future 'discussion'.

No what happened was her mother went to the hospital for what we believed were kidney stones, since it wasn't an emergency we went and saw a movie since we already had plans. I noticed she kept texting on her phone throughout the movie. Asked her what was up and she said "nothing." After the movie was over she said we had to rush to the ER as it was much worse.

But thank you for believing I am a dick.

Apparently you are such a dick that your wife was afraid to let you make the choice.

I think you'd be surprised. I know a ton of people who are so desperate to fit into the nerd/gamer sterotype they're willing to wear the ugliest graphic tshirts and do all sorts of trite gaming memes. For whatever reason the triforce has become the de-facto "I'm a nerd!" symbol. I don't even know why since the games are pretty shallow and extremely accessible. Not exactly what I'd consider "gamer" games but whatever.

I knew she was texting her family which is why I asked. I wasn't going to have a full-blown conversation during the opening of GotG in a full theater. There's a time and place for a woman's bullshit game of making us pry information from them, and that wasn't it. If she didn't want to tell me, then I figured it wasn't that serious. I told her after that she should have just said something and I would have left immediately. She said she didn't want to ruin the movie..

Woman sometimes.. sigh

But by virtue of the fact that they are wearing ugly, trite gaming meme shirts they are qualifying themselves as nerds.

I guess it depends on how you define it. Personally I get a huge try-hard vibe from all these people. I wore my Bengals jersey to the game Saturday but that didn't mean I was playing.
