Ugh, I've been jonesing to play this game. Managed to get to level 30 and get all the anniversary stuff before I had to stop playing (all my shit, including PC, is being shipped to my new location from overseas). About two more weeks and I can play again, woo.

For whatever reason, I had way more fun with this game than D3 and I haven't even hit end game yet.

So here's what I've been doing. I bought a few eternity splinter boost drops since you can't buy ult tokens with G and I need to take my BP's ult from 14 to 20 ASAP. It drops the timer to 7 minutes almost precisely. I go into midtown, kill until I get a splinter drop, zone back into a hub and wait for 7 minutes, rinse repeat. It's boring but if you want to semi-afk and watch TV or do something around the house it's a great way to work the system.

Mental Focus Headband does not exist, I swear it. Over 120 runs on MODOK so far, and nothing.

Took your advice Sabbat and respecced my character to a spec off the Marvel forums, and I went from 51 to 58 today. Hoping to get my first 60 tomorrow off my dailies, since I already finished the Superheroic story. Also got my Crafter to level 18, which helped me upgrade a few of my uniques to 50's. That helped a ton.

Don't hesitate to burn boosts on your first character btw, and on the 2nd. The more 60s you have the faster it goes which makes the boosts fairly redundant, plus every char gets a bunch of the 50% xp boosts(3 each from quest rewards) so can always pop these.

Any suggestions on a good starter character?
Human Torch (glass cannon minus the glass part)
Black Panther (one of the better melees in the game)

Any suggestions on a good starter character?
Black Panther is probably the strongest starter character all around as he doesn't absolutely need the rarer artifacts to be effective.

Hawkeye is a beast when geared

Human Torch is good but if you want to raid he's not the best. He's squishy, which would be fine, but he needs to be close to the action to be effective and his sig requires him to fly around on top of what he wants to hit with it and he can't cast other stuff while he's doing that

Colossus is very tanky and can do respectable damage

Storm just had her 52 review and the jury is still out on that, but she isn't weak

Black Widow can be quite good with gear

Punisher is meh, Luke Cage I don't know much about, same with Capt. America

Honestly it doesn't matter too too much who you choose first, you will have almost enough splinters to buy a second, random hero after you finish the story line on normal and you can get carried in X-Def once you hit 60 to get some gear. There are so many heroes in this game that most people aren't going to just level and stick to their first character. You'll probably play around with a few before you decide. The Buy One Get One free for heroes and costumes as well as a 15% store discount is going on until Midnight tonight so you might want to do that to get a few heroes in your stable.

I hope you're right. I finally broke down and bought the Kate Bishop costume even though I have no idea how good and/or fun Hawkeye is at 60. I just like her in the comics (and hate his default costume) enough that I had to do it. :p

Btw, do you still have that STS available? I've been playing Ms. Marvel almost exclusively for weekend farming and everything else kind of slipped my mind.

Yep still have it. In game name is Ritley. And yes, hawkeye does a lot of damage when geared.

Torch is really glass, so so canon until later levels. His 52 progression is the harshest of all the heroes I've played, because pretty much all his good skills are 32 to 47 and he gets fairly trash stuff before that, while being very squishy. Storm would be a lot easier to start with and while the damage is probably lower eventually, it's not too far off I'd say but she's like insanely more tanky until you get the mana shield thingie for Torch(and even then not sure). So for a "caster" starter I'd definitely recommend storm over torch atm, even though torch isn't a bad choice by any means, it's just kinda like hard mode starter.

Black Panther I found to be annoying as hell to play until I hit 30 and got the sig, then it became very fun, his sig is awesome. But definitely great hero.

Hawkeye is great in the glass canon style too, he never gets very tanky but his freeze arrow is ridiculous if you level it to 10ish or so, it basically perma CC everything you fight other than bosses, but he can kite very well and does high damage so you don't kite for too long, doesn't tank even that bad if you use the melee attack to boost defense and max his tanking passive.

Rocket Racoon is currently very meh, but getting a rework at the end of the month. He's the "pet" based hero in the starter, he uses turrets and Groot as well as ranged pewpew, his damage is kinda meh but his survivability is pretty much the highest in the game due to having a shit ton of attackable pets, so he pretty much never gets hit.

Wouldn't recommend punisher, not bad but not great, and fairly boring, clunky design, needs his 52 rework. Black Widow seems all over the place, didn't like her playstyle, Black Panther seems a fuckton better for melee and Hawkeye for ranged. Colossus I haven't played, looked meh but I guess he is pretty tanky, didn't like how "slow" his playstyle seemed though. Haven't played Luke Cage, heard mixed things about him, probably wouldn't recommend. Haven't played Daredevil but heard good things.

Daredevil is a starter hero now? Didn't realize they changed up the roster. Daredevil is very strong with gear too. Probably just below Black Panther as far as melee go.
