".there's been a, a sudden trend in animation, with super-heroes. Like, 'it's too old. It's too old for our audience, and it has to be younger. It has to be funnier.' .the audience we wanna go after, is not the Young Justice audience any more. We wanna go after little kids, who are into-boys who are into goofy humor, goofy random humor, like on Adventure Time or Regular Show. We wanna do that goofy, that sense of humor, that's where we're going for.'"

Yeah that basically describes Hulk Smash, Avengers Assemble, and Ultimate Spiderman.

I can't be too pissed off about it because it's not meant for me, but man I miss all the really well done Super Hero animated shows.

I watched 2 episodes of Hulk and the Agents of SMASH. Then I killed myself. This is my ghost typing.

I hate the term "random humor". Because unfunny shit gets excused for it. Adventure Time is funny because it's funny. The fact the humor is random is secondary. Shit like Family guy just fires shit up as "random humor" without the humor.

Yeah, all three of those new shows are terrible.

I guess they wanted to have an extremely kid friendly section of the Marvel universe, but Kids like the more mature stuff.
Yeah a ton of shows got canceled, Young Justice, Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes and Tron: Uprising over on Disney.

They were all great shows but they all had more of an adult following and adults don't by that many toys so they were canceled. Gotta make those toy sales gang.

What the fuck is all this bullshit about girls "leading" comic book movies now? There's a simple reason comic book stuff is generally not marketed to girls: girls don't give a fuck about comics for the most part. Comics are a visual medium. Boys are visual creatures. It's less about the plot and more about the art and perhaps the mythology. It's short on stuff that girls like, like love triangles and princes and living happily ever after and all that Disney movie stuff.

What I think is happening is that women with power in Hollywood are seeing how much money all this Marvel stuff is making and want a piece of the action. But since there's so few "strong female leads" in the source material they're now crying foul and attempting to change the game. Good luck with that shit, they'll just end up killing the golden goose. Stick to your wheelhouse Hollywomen: Rom-coms, Disney princess movies (Frozen just made a $1bil), and arthouse flicks.

This just in: People at DC are retards who hate females.

No wait, we've known that a while now.

Anyone know the dirty details about the Marvel licensing of Spiderman, X-Men, etc. ? As long as someone like Sony keeps turning out Spiderman movies every X years, do they keep the rights forever or is there some sort of twilight clause / time frame where marvel can take it back?

No, I think that's the gist. I wish Disney would just re-license them back or something, get out the checbook and end the misery.

Me too, but Disney needs to make more money from Marvel properties before buying back all those rights. Remember, they spend 4 BILLION dollars on Star Wars, and while that's a massive franchise, it'd probably cost in the hundreds of millions to buy back X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spidey.

Yeah, but a "Secret Wars/Infinity Gauntlet" type movie with all of them, preceded by several individual movies of their own, of course, could easily make a billion or more each like Avengers did. It would be worth it if the cost were anywhere near 1-2 billion I'd say.

However, I think they'd have a difficult time rebooting the X-Men. Fantastic Four and Spider-Man could be done fairly easily I think, because no one is really attached to those actors I'd imagine, but Wolverine, Professor X, and Magneto are all characters that would be REALLY difficult to recast and not be negatively viewed against the originals (not counting First Class shenanigans). The rest of them I think would be fine, but those three, I really don't know that you could get better actors. And regardless of if you think that someone would be better for Wolverine, the simple fact is that everyone on the planet associates Wolverine with Jackman, so anyone else is going to suffer in comparison.

It might be best if Disney waits for Fox to kill the franchise itself. Otherwise, if they buy it back, they'd have to wait a good while for people to forget, probably a decade minimum. Might be worth it still, but I'm not the one that would have to spend the money.

since my wife and i moved to a new town, one of her co-workers says the city we live in parties on st paddies, she was gonna bring her family out and asked if we'd join. later on we had lunch and i was talking with the father (it was weird we kinda connected, you could tell he was geeky and we know about each others work areas), and the kids a 12 yr boy and 14 yr girl. quiet at first, but they start talking about you culture, news and comics. then she talked about how some other girl at school knew about spiderman but she knew about more spiderman and came out blazing about his kids. they're gonna make a family night of the cptn america opening. these kids looked like your avg middle america white kids, no weird goths or nuttin, (i'm more than twice thier age, fuck 3x, so i'm sure i'm out of touch with high school kids, but they don't look like any stereo types on southpark!) i really don't know if it's father influence or maybe it's a culture shift, don't know, lets get an avg high schooler in here.

Did you do some rails before typing that post up?

As for Spidey etc, why would Fox/Sony ever give them up? Even the shittiest Spidey movies are a license to print money. Spidey 3 and Amazing were equally awful and both made absolute BANK. It's a tentpole franchise and they'd be GD idiots to sell it for almost any amount. X-Men isn't quite as lucrative but they've shown that even after running it in to the dirt(X3, Wolverine) they can recover with something like First Class and just keep cranking them out to make cash.

Unless Disney is willing to shell out another 4 billion I don't see those franchises coming home any time soon. Like, in the next decade or so.

Well that's your opinion. ASM was light years ahead of SM3 in mine. As far as being good movies, I'd put SM 2 ahead of them all with SM1 and ASM about equal. I really do prefer Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man over Toby McQuire's, the fight scenes are better, his movements are much more like Spider-Man's as well as his sarcastic banter.

You're wrong and probably smell like fish.

Let's not drag this in to this thread too, sorry I mentioned that festering pile of goat excrement.

Again, it may be a bad thing for marvel to own all those properties. They own all of them in comic form and half the time they don't make any sense. Competition is good for the consumer. Case in point, the current marvel movie universe happened the way it did because of how fox handled the xmen. Not enough screen time for character development of so many loved characters turns things into the wolverine show. They did all these individual movies so the characters wouldn't compete for screen time. Point is, as much as I'd love a secret war movie... A world where that's possible might bring a lower caliber movie.

Unless Disney buys DC, as well...the competition will remain even if they get X-Men, Spiderman, and Fantastic Four back. I'd rather let Marvel have the chance to screw it up rather than let Fox continue to do so.
