Outlook is decent for the ratings so far, fromone source:

Marvel?s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (8-9pm ? 8.4 million and 3.1/10): Excluding only the prior week?s big debut, week 2 of ABC?s Marvel?s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. delivered the Net?s highest Adult 18-49 rating in the Tuesday 8-9pm time period in 2 years ? since 10/10/11. The ABC drama won its hour over NBC?s The Voice and CBS? NCIS across all key Men demos (M18-34/M18-49/M25-54) to rank as Tuesday?s #1 TV show on all 3 measures. A big gainer in early TV playback, S.H.I.E.L.D.?s 3.1 L+SD rating is projected to go up to a 4.3 Adult 18-49 rating in the Live + 3 Day numbers (+38%).

So far I'm getting more enjoyment out of the references to the movies/comics and the SLJ cameo than I am the actual show. To me, this show is riding its geek cred more than it is its own quality.

I am going to give it a chance, but it isn't blowing me away out the gates.

That's an ABC press release; of course they frame things positively.

The show dropped 34% from its premiere, which is common for "event" shows like this. The truth of the matter is it is too early to tell - the numbers for last night would keep it on the air forever, but I doubt it stays at those numbers.

True, to both points. If it holds these numbers it's too early to say, but even still they're (ABC) currently putting a good spin on it, so that's a good prognosis at this point. Plus, the numbers posted are projected to rise a bit with SD+3 and online factored in.

I watched episode 2 today over my lunch break. Despite being a huge comic nerd, it really annoyed me.

I would say the biggest culprit of said announce would be the big orchestra number any time an action sequence begins. It feels like I'm watching an Indiana Jones movie.

You think so? That's not the vibe I was getting off the guy. But it could be he's just gay IRL and not a very good actor.
i dont think he is gay, i mean the two guys do share some of their character traits and appearances. i just watched the bad wolf episode of Dr Who and the way these guys were acting and walking around reminded me a lot of each other. im also trying to be funny by labeling everyone.

Most of this second episode was very underwhelming to me. The cameo at the end was cool I guess, and there were moments that weren't bad but overall I didn't really care for it. Hope that's an exception and not how the series pans out as a whole.

Glad I read the thread. I closed the mpc window when the shield logo popped up, I thought that was the end of the episode! I'd have been gutted to realise I missed some Samuel if I'd deleted it right away.

It's crap tbh but enjoyable crap so I'll be back every week until it's cancelled. Maybe Smulders will be in it as a regular character next season once HIMYM drags its zombiefied carcass across the finish line.

I was just thinking about this earlier about possible storylines they could do.

Halloween coming up, maybe a marvel zombie tie in somehow through tech they have to stop. Anyone else got some ideas, be curious to hear em?

Marvel Zombie tie in would be cool, but that would require Marvel characters to zombify in the first place, and they haven't really introduced any of the heroes. I guess they could still do it, introduce some low level shits as zombies and do it X-Files style. Zombie Batroc the Leaper and Zombie Dr. Bong, fuck yeah!

really...really bad episode for 90% of it's lenght. It becomes good only when they finally land, where for some strange reason the character interaction improve. I found great the idea of dumping dungerous artifacts into the sun. Safest way to get rid of them

Skye still having contact with the Rising Tide was unespected. Probably the RT is much more than we know

The fish tank joke made me laugh, i admit

Yeah, few people suggesting Rising Tide = Atlantean Turrerests.

There was a mini-series/event with Atlantean Terrorists doing stuff and something and stuff... at some point. Yeah.

I had major concerns after the pilot.

After watching episode 2, this show is DOA. It'll chug along with the built in audience for a while but at this rate I'm not even sure it gets past a second season which is a fuck up of a colossal order given what it started from.

second episode... the usual "lets get together and build our relationship while we fight a common enemy", i guess it's ok. i'm really fighting the urge, not to like this series, it's way too campy for my tastes, comparatively to josS' other stuff i've seen it feels more buffy than firefly.

I really want to like this, but so far I'm not really sure what to make of it. I liked the 80's vibe of the Peru-location though :s

So, we get introduced to a group of exceptional people in what they do. They are grouped together with a common goal of...? It is almost as if the writers are not really sure what this group really does. Ok they explore the new unknown while having to deal with some bad group that does not effect the Avengers. The second episode felt like a filler episode. I feel like I am watching the "Behind the scenes of the Avengers" everytime I watch this so far. I want to see the Avengers and what they do. I want the stories to follow the Avengers, whether seperately or together. I know this is the plan, but if it includes 75% of the episodes just being filler episodes, then I am concerned. It will be interesting to see how they write this show, given that super heroes exist, but will rarely exist on the show. It will be like watching Superman without Superman, but instead showing the great interactions that take place at the daily planet when it comes to reporting all about Superman. The writers have thier work cut out for them.

it does feel rather silly when you think about these guys are investigating piddly shit compared to the avengers or what they fight. captain america fights red skull. agents of shield fight red skull's phaser.
