I'll take your money. Read it and Lost World. Lost World is a really, really bad book. Even the movie was better.

JP is a good book, but I was seven and wanted to be an archaeologist when JP came out. That was the premier movie of childhood. I think my parents took me to the theater over 10 times to see it. I didn't read the book until six or so years later.
Jurassic Park was the best movie I ever saw until around 14-16 when I saw Shawshank Redemption and realized there was more craft to a story than dinosaurs.

temple of doom is a prequel, but it never really explicitly says it's a prequel. there's some evidence here and there but for the most part, indy's adventures feel like serials instead of episodic in nature. Also, fast and the furious is weird... the timeline of the movies are in a goofy order. it's something like 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 3. So everything after Tokyo drift take place BEFORE Tokyo drift, but AFTER 1 and 2. so it's a prequel and a sequel at the same time.

What's interesting is that they did this solely for the sake of one character/actor who wasn't even in the main one in 3.

does it? I don't think I ever paid attention to the years.
its all good, as i said, i really really loved this movie as a kid and also as an adult. i could probably quote the heart ripping ritual word for word.

and this discussion is really making me want to watch it again.

iirc Raiders takes place in the middle of WWII, Temple's at the start and Last Crusade is near the end of the war.. something like that. It's been a long time since I've seen any of these movies, Jurassic included.

The chick in Temple of Doom is/was Spielberg's wife? Never knew that.

Fun night going to a concert with friends. Some of them were playing. It was a metal show and somehow people got on this "Khali Ma" kick. Throwing a clenched fist high in the air like they were holding the still beating heart of some poor slob. I think one of the guys on stage did it as something to tide people over while they were finishing their set up.

The next day, late afternoon, everyone was coming out of it and decided to go someplace for lunch. We were like a party of 12. We get seated and this cute little waitress comes over and says "Welcome to whatevers, my name is Kali, and I'll be your ...." Suddenly everyone just threw their clutched hands up and yelled "Kali MA!!!" Poor girl was scared speechless for like 20 seconds.

Anyways, what were we talking about? Prequels? Does Memento count? That movie is like it's own prequel.

If you count Rise of the Planet of the Apes as a prequel to the Planet of the Apes remake, it is better. If you count it as a prequel to the original Planet of the Apes, it is worse.

Well he's not fighting Nazis but to me it seems plenty Indyish. Adventure, antiquity, hot bitches, etc.

Not sure what Batman they are talking about, but if its Nolan's they have 1 & 2 backwards.

the original series, everything after the second film are prequels, even though they could also be sequels.

rambo 2 was the bigger movie. return of the king wasnt nearly as good as fellowship or two towers. rocky 3 is just as popular or moreso than the original rocky. and 1989 batman was a goddamned huge movie.

Rambo 2 was much bigger for the box office, but First Blood is by far a superior film. I'd argue that three is shit compared to the first two also.

I haven't watched all of those trilogies, but I disagree pretty strongly about Die Hard. The second one is the worst. Three is fucking awesome.

I think Batman might be the first two Michael Keaton films and then the one with Tommy Lee Jones and Jim Carrey. I actually liked the third one. It was very cartoony. Chris O'Donnell sucks though.
