My point is, if I'm not going to get a raise on merit, what exactly is the point of being in the private sector when there's plenty of WAY easier jobs in the public sector for the same shit pay?

Metrics wise, I am producing 3-4x the work of my peers, and received an award from upper management who shouldn't even know my name at this point, because I provide a high degree of communication to management on every sensitive issue for every sensitive customer that I handle. And yet, they won't even give me a raise up to the point of what they're giving male new hires on my own team?

At this point, since I'm quitting in the next couple months anyway, maybe it is in my best interest to go above my immediate bosses' heads and ask for a position more commensurate with my experience and education. I'm pretty sure my immediate bosses just want me stuck here because I do most of their work for them.
Yep go above your Immediate Supervisors head. I want to see what happens!

Yeah have fun with that on your resume. Just move the fuck on and take that other job for 6 months, since you are going to end up crawling back to University of Feels to whatever hugbox you dwell in there. At least you won't have a black mark on your work record for stirring up shit down the road, when you may actually be forced to join the real world. Plus, who knows, you might meet some new people if you go someplace where you are not busy nailing yourself to the fucking cross constantly.

Do we really believe Mist is out performing male colleagues?
In number of hours worked, number of incidents handled, quality of communication on each incident handled, amount of administrative bullshit handled, etc, absolutely.

There are definitely male members of my team who know more about networking/VOIP/SIP than I do, but not by a huge margin. And most of the gritty technical issues we handle have nothing to do with those things, and everything to do with various linux server administration stuff, pulling logs, stopping and restarting services, patching servers, renewing certs, etc via bash), of which my knowledge is as good as any and better than most.

And not living under her mom's skirt. Or dating. Or eating pussy. Or moving on with life. Or rape statistics. Or anything involving socializing.

Actually, Mist pretty much sucks at everything, which is hilariously ironic for someone so smug and judgmental.

I have had a lot of female IT coworkers think this over the years. It was only true about two of them. One was a Novell expert and the other used to have a penis.

If anything you said is remotely true Mist, you should move to south Texas. They are hurting bad for low level networking grunts and it is pretty much Dyke Heaven down there.

I hate it when windows strips dscp marking when I am trying to test lldp priority marking when testing network policy on ICX6430s. Mist do you have a way to test VOIP stutter easily, i have two or three stations that have a little feedback. Mist do you have a way to walk dscp tagging through a network to see if it is being stripped at some point in time?

It's one of the dozen or so things I am in charge of, so your help would be appreciated.

It sucks that these do not support SFLOW, but 6610s are really expensive.

You work in IT, not some subjective field. If you are truly producing 3-4x the work of your peers, and have familiarity with topics that exceed your co-workers, you should easily be able to provide metrics that prove this. I manage an IT department, and I make sure my top performer that's also a single point of failure when it comes to a few systems is treated like gold. It's in my best interest to do so, because if he was to quit/leave I would have to deal with the resulting risk and burden. Make a logical case demonstrating how valuable you are and get the raise. Stop playing the victim, because if you are truly are as productive and knowledgeable as you claim then in actuality you are the one in control here. I may be the boss, but in reality my top guy could put me over the barrel if he wanted to. *Truly* skilled IT people that also have a college background (mainly for work ethic and multitasking skills) are very rare and I will do anything to hold onto them.

Have you tried unplugging your router for 20 seconds and then plugging it back in?

Oh, I did. My boss and his boss both agreed with all of my points, and begged me to stay because they're having trouble getting continuity from competent people on the second and third shift. But then they said because of how department budgets are done, that any raise would have to wait for December and it would still be lower than what they're giving new hires, because any raise would just be a simple percentage increase of what I got hired at. I have no chance of getting an actual significant raise until I get a title bump to Specialist, even though I am doing all the same work as a Specialist already.

Oh, and I just got back from the therapist that my job is making me go to. He said flat out that I'm clearly not doing something I really want to be doing, I'm not getting paid enough money to do it, and I should just go do something else while getting my PhD because I shouldn't be worrying this much about a 19 dollar an hour job in a windowless room.

He also told me not to abandon my mother, so what does he know.

Now it's time to brainstorm some ideas on how to quit in an epic manner.

Maybe try not being an over dramatic attention seeking dipshit and just give your two weeks notice and quit like a normal responsible adult would.

That would be epic.

Simple. Put in two weeks and leave for the other job without making a giant production number out of it like a faggot. I am fairly certain they will never see that coming.

That said, is the fact that your job forced you to see a therapist not some sort of giant red flag that your perception of your job performance might differ from reality? Or at least that its time to move the fuck on?

Edit- Mario beat me to it.

They literally made me sign up for a mandatory EAP on the same day that they gave me the quarterly award for my division, and specifically said 'this EAP not about job performance, and no disciplinary action has been taken, your coworkers are worried about you and emails were sent to management.' Which is an entirely illegal reason to put someone on a mandatory EAP.

Contrary to what you might expect, I've spent most of my life mousy and quiet. I rarely speak when it isn't absolutely necessary.

For once, I'd like to make some noise. The company handbook requests that a resignation letter be delivered to the CEO for all employees at all levels. By 'epic' I mean write a really good resignation letter, and maybe if I'm feeling daring, leave a couple copies on the printer that no one will ever even notice.

Woah, quit and go somewhere else. I was unaware that you have been labelled the company neurotic by coworkers and management. There's your reason for non-advancement right there. Go somewhere else and try hard not to come off as the batshit lesbian. Move somewhere that has a thriving IT industry, and if you're as good as you say you are the offers will roll in. Take your crazy mother with you if you really can't break out of the co-dependency cycle.
