Its so insane how up and down Overeems career has been. He has peerless cage experience, also plied his trade in many rings, having held kickboxing titles while also being a MMA champion.
In 2011 he had this fighting vlog called "The Reem" that followed him during fight week etc, he was at the height of his powers and fame.( was on a 11 fight winning streak)
Then all the sudden he was brutally knocked out like 5 or 6 fucking times over a 3 year span and plummeted. (although to be fair he did go on a 4 fight winning streak during that time and all of his opponents were high quality)
After he had his face rearranged by Rozenstruik and his lip exploded, I thought he was done and should retire. I thought for sure Dana would cut him. But, the UFC showed why it knows what's its doing and renewed him. He went on to once again redeem himself, and not only recover but excel. He is one of the most active fighters on the roster, nevermind at HW.
47 wins with 42 finishes! (also has been knocked out 14 times, only submitted once though--by the greatest BJJ HW practitioner of all time Werdum-- in his entire career)

with DC out of the rankings, Reem is back to 5th, he said he wants to fight Lewis next, or rematch Rozenstruik
Blaydes already called out Lewis last month.
Lewis said he is up to fight Blaydes, Francis or Reem.
sorta crazy with 1 more win, he could be back in the top3
not a great card, but looks better than what the UFC has this week.

A dude from Providence RI, which is only 30 miles away from where I live, made it to Dana White Contender series last night, Dinis "Sweetbread" Paiva. He fought in a shit tier promotion in NE called CES, but he fought a couple former UFC veterans and other regionally ranked fighters, so he isnt a complete scrub. His record was 13-7, with 7 first round finishes, he won 6 fights in a row up until last night. Sadly he only won the 3rd round and lost a decision to Kyle Driscoll.
Everyone around here was bummed afterward but he showed heart and toughness, he has ever been stopped. I dont know if Dana will give him another look though. Kind of sucks you fight your whole life to make it to that point, a trip to Vegas, a chance of a lifetime. Now its back to the drawing board fighting cans in lower Providence.
