Did that event run crazy long? I buzzed through it on the DVR just now and even with a 30 minute extension it cut out with 3+ fights still to go.

Sadly, Frankie just can't get Aldo down, and you could see on the feet that Edgar can easily be beaten there. Unending cardio is great, especially vs Aldo. But he isn't grounding Aldo like that, and he sure as hell isn't going to finish Aldo during his normal 5th round coast.
Yeah I totally agree with you there. As the fight started I was actually thinking how it looked like Cub was a step ahead of Frankie. But as Frankie just kept pressing and was able to start taking Cub down, he just destroyed him.

I am not sure it is totally impossible for him to get Aldo down, as Aldo has been known to fade in fights. If he can press him hard from the beginning, it is possible he starts to wear on him and get him down in the mid rounds somewhere.

Unrelated to UFC, this is awesome.

edit: Man I wish Barboza had a better chin, he's such fun to watch.

WTF, is that Gustafsson next to him? Cause he would appear to dwarf him if so.

Looks like he has a little bit of weight to drop. Hope he doesn't fall into his old routine again.
And that is the next thing I was thinking. I really hope he hasn't gotten so much bigger that he will now have a hard time dropping to 205.

Jesus that was fucking awesome.

Watched the fight from the latest TUF tonight while skipping the rest if the episode. Lately I'm paying more attention to footwork in striking exchanges, thanks to reading JackSlack and some Lawrence Kenshin breakdown stuff I think I know what I'm looking at...

Holy fuck, Aisling has weird and mostly awful footwork. It's like if you combined Dillashaw or Dom Cruz's awkward footwork with being slow and wrong and ineffective. With the weird footwork and the stepping punches etc you still want to get your lead foot on the outside, as usual. You use the weird movements to do it even more and lead to off angle strikes. Aisling just sort of did it with no plan. Big awkward steps in every direction with no function.

Lots of MMA fighters have bad or mediocre footwork. Part of it is just worrying about takedowns. But women have almost universally bad footwork. There's no creating angles, just rote strikes. Once the next generation of female fighters hit the scene, ones who have been working with guys with high level boxing/kickboxing backgrounds since they started, it should look like a whole different sport for them.

edit: Speaking of JackSlack, he's got another really important breakdown today...

They're saying all of the money is going to the fighters, and I'll take that at face value but I have to wonder what the percentages are and how much some of the lower ranked guys are going to get fucked in this deal. A lot of these guys make their living off of the sponsorships (considering that many of them make ~$10k per fight from the UFC, and only fight a few times per year).

I'm sure sponsorship banners, walk out t-shirts and apparel will still be means for fighters to make some extra cash. If they ban those, then I can really see the fighters unionizing in the not to distant future.
