I'm sure sponsorship banners, walk out t-shirts and apparel will still be means for fighters to make some extra cash. If they ban those, then I can really see the fighters unionizing in the not to distant future.
From what I gathered from the article the UFC has banned all of it from the weigh-ins through the fight.

Yeah, I can see that with this line.

"This is no different than any other major sport. You can't just run onto the field or basketball court with whatever sponsors you want. It just doesn't work that way and we're now at that level."
But this one greys it a bit.

Uniforms will be mostly standardized but should allow for individualism, according to Fertitta.
Yeah... a fighters union is inevitable now.

What I was referring to was:

Fighters no longer will be permitted to wear independent sponsorships during a fight or the promotion leading up to it, but can maintain sponsorships outside of events.

It's all banned fight week.

Most fighters seem to be all for this. Theyhatechasing down sponsors and seem to believe they won't be losing any money on this.

edit: They also announced they're opening a rehab center for injured fighters at Zuffa HQ. I'm guessing so they can oversee the treatment they're paying for since they started covering all training injuries.

Not for those that are trying to make their way through the smaller promotions before getting to the big show. Sponsorship is their life blood, along with being coaches out of whatever gym that train out of.

They have nothing to do with the UFC or this deal with Reebok, though.

What is the point for companies to invest in local fighters anymore if their big advertising audience is now relegated to fights on AXS.tv (bellator, legacy, etc.)?

Oh it sucks for Dynamic Fastener and Condom Depot and Dude Wipes for sure. But for fighters itcouldbe a huge boon. After years of fans complaining about how the fighters get shafted here's something that could work out big in their favor and fans just pre-shit all over it without any facts.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe it is a huge boon for the fighters that are in the UFC. However, you are missing the point.

Your point seems to be that companies won't invest in regional fighters anymore because some day they might get to the UFC. Correct? There's some merit there, but not much. Hell, if anything this might get those guys to pay more to get on the 2nd and 3rd tier promotions like Bellator and MFC etc, since they don't have the option of UFC guys. And regional sponsors like Bubba's Crawdad Shack weren't gonna be with fighters making it to the UFC anyways.

I get the concern, these lower tier fighters need the money and if sponsors are scared off it hurts them, but I don'tthinkit should have much impact. Could be wrong.

The Rose Jojo fight was really good. I still think it's a shame they fought this early. I'd have liked to see that as the championship fight
