That last few events I watched were all good to great. I missed the Joanna Champ vs. Penne one so not sure how that was. But Machida/Romero was good. Werdum/Cain was only kinda OK, few good fights that went the distance. Hendo/Boetsch was fucking fireworks, 10 out of 12 fights finishes. Condit/Alves was good, if a little light on star power. Cormier/Rumble was dope, plus I fucking nailed my predictions on that one.

That's a pretty good month and a half run for the UFC. Of course there's 3 more events in the next week so I don't expect it to keep rolling.

Rory looks like a White Walker that just got it's ass beat.

That was one of the best cards I've watched in a long time. The absolute best that I've actually ordered. I thought it was over for Conor a couple of times and some fucking how he managed to finish it in the 2nd round like he predicted....that shit gave me the 15 yrs ago in middle school some kinda WWF Monday Night Raw No Fucking Way kinda feels. I just don't see the argument for Mendes gassing in any situation. Better yet, anyone he trains with. Of course you are going to gas against someone as big as McGregor but these dudes train all the time. I just don't see how fighting someone different would make you gas even if you train for only 2 weeks. Team Alpha Male trains all the time and I guarantee Mendes wasn't out of shape for this fight....just hate seeing that kinda fuckery once its all said and done and ppl are looking for something to blame.

Well it has to be the body shots, he did a 5 round slobberknocker with Aldo back in October that went to a unanimous decision but he was never actually out of the fight. I was more surprised Conor still had so much left after 3 minutes of Mendes laying on him and landing elbows.

*edit*

Fedor see if you can dig up a gif of the 3rd round ending. I swear it looked like McCarthy was walking in to stop the fight when the bell rang.

I'm actually interested in Mcrgregor vs Aldo now. That guy has some serious fucking power which makes him dangerous for anyone.

Seemed Connor landed a few good kicks and punches before the ground action and mendes gassed. Mcgregor got up and just pounded him. What I saw in my own opinion.

My favorite thing was just how absolutely relaxed and calm Conor was when they got back to the feet. He said in the postfight that Chad broke, and in that moment it really looked like Conor felt that. No more taunting or bouncing around, just stalked Chad down like it was a done deal.

This fight really has just made the hype for Aldo that much bigger. It will be fucking amazing when it happens in 2017.

Well hindsight being 20/20, Mendes' critical mistake was advancing posture and going for a sub. Maybe Conor suckered him by asking why Herb wasn't standing them up (he sure suckered me), but he should have just stayed in his guard and kept going for elbows, with the plan being to sit in his guard and land elbows for the entire rest of the fight.

Not glorious, but a belt was on the line.

Chael Sonnen Says Edgar or Faber, Not Jose Aldo, Is Next for Conor McGregor | Bleacher Report

Jason on Twitter: Jordan Breen just confirmed that Conor hurt his knee in training camp. DC hinted at it too. @FrontRowBrian reported it. Guess it's true.

"Well, since you are the only one who had any interest I thought I'd send it PM. Anyways, I understand there isn't much reason for you to believe a stranger but I'll confide in you anyways and you can choose to believe it or tell me screw off. Happened on the world tour when they were in Toronto. Both Rory and Conor were at the gym of a good friend of mine getting some light work in during the off time. Rory and Conor were having a light grappling session, not particularly competitive and Rory landed awkwardly on Conor. Conor injured his knee and was screaming at Rory that 'this isn't the proper way to train'. His team took him to the hospital accompanied by the owner of the gym whom I'm very close with. Supposedly, the results did show a meniscal tear."

Just in case it wasn't mentioned yet, Robbie Lawler is a fucking savage. Remember the gif of him giving Hendricks the psycho smile after getting hit by him? Tonight when he went back to his corner after the 4th, right after spitting out that spray of blood, he told them "I feel fuckin' great!" or something like that. The man was absolutely born to fight. He goes through these wars and at the end it all just seems to have energized him while his opponents are broken.

edit: All 3 judges had the same scorecard going in to the 5th, 39-37 Rory, with Robbie winning the 2nd.

Well psycho or not, he was a second or two away from losing the match in the third and he would have lost if MacDonald didn't have limp noodles for arms.

*edit*

and yeah I'm not surprised he was losing on the scorecard too, although I feel like round 4 could have gone either way so I'm surprised all 3 judges gave it to Rory

Was bored after looking up Oblio's first post in the thread, and I found this gem. First post in the forum about Conor McGregor was by good ol Grim 2.5 years ago.

UFC signed their first Irish born fighter this week, Conor McGregor. If you watch InsideMMA you've seen a few clips of this guy in highlights fighting in Cage Warriors. Just demolishing people who were woefully outgunned. And if not don't worry, Internet's got your back.

It's because McGregor is a joke. He's a nobody that got fast tracked because the UFC was desperate for someone new to fight Aldo.
Why did you say Conor was a joke then? That kid is no joke.

That Knee he landed in that gif is massive from that previous fight,

If they are saying he was hurt in tonight's fight, and was still able to rock the energy right out of mendes in less then 30 seconds into the fight that is one deadly fighter.

He was a fast tracked nobody. As I already said, he fought a bunch of no names, then Dennis Siver who is good but a bad mismatch and past his prime and was maybe ranked 13th at the time? So they pop him all the way up to 3rd and give him the title shot against Aldo.

He was a nobody that they fast tracked because they needed someone new to fight Aldo. He stopped being a nobody when he beat a big name like Mendes tonight. If he had lost to Mendes tonight, he probably would have fallen back out of the top ten just as fast as he got there.

Mendes said connor wasn't to hard to control on the ground and once they got up he was kinda gassed and got rocked would make you think he wasn't trying to hard on the ground just waiting it out.
That fast tracked nobody also had the biggest draw in ufc history tonight so that must say something.

That's what it looked like to me, like he was thinking he could control Mendes's posture and get the standup maybe. I would think that's a bad idea in a title fight or even in today's MMA but it worked.

Yeah, but if you dont think the other guy can do enough and you preserve energy. Sure mendes took the fight with two weeks but really do mma fighters sit on the couch and only in get in shape in their boot camp? I doubt it.

that the UFC has a powerful and effective hype machine?

I mean take Anderson Silva's title reign. It got to the point where nobody cares about his matches anymore, not even Silva. So then they hyped the hell out of his rematch with Sonnen, it got a much bigger buzz, and Silva didn't fuck around. Hell, the majority of the second half of Silva's title defenses were people who were only fighting him because he had nobody else to fight. Jon Jones pretty much cleared out the LHW division, so the UFC didn't waste a second stripping him of the title when they had an excuse. You know they don't give a damn about the hit and run, they just didn't want to be stuck with him running wild over a stale division for another 2-3 years. Now it will probably be at least a year til he comes back, then probably another year or two before they give him a title shot again.

I guarantee you that they would have rather pulled McGregor from the card entirely if they could have gotten away with it, because Mendes winning would have been a nightmare scenario for keeping the featherweight division interesting.
