So, just hit HR20 last night, and other than a triple cart to the opening High Rank mission due to being tired/worn out from heavy lifting on Saturday it's been relatively laid back hunting. Will agree that the support is absolutely nuts, with the HBG the NPC support hunters and/or my Palico are keeping the mob off me for long enough to dump meter even when the mob is still active. Perfect Guards and Offset Attacks are massive at being able to just stand your ground and keep your uptime rolling. A lot of the lack of difficulty I'm seeing seems to be due to player knowledge and skill being paramount, so if you've got a decent idea of how a monster telegraphs and which attacks are unblockable, you can solo them naked with a starter weapon (provided you can stay focused for the entire fight). Case in point, ran a HR Alpha Doga with a few randoms, and two of them carted due to missing dodges and getting greedy. Meanwhile I was sitting there just goading the big fucker into attacking me because I wanted to get more power clashes.
On a weapon note, I've seen a lot of complaining that HBG has been severely nerfed compared to WorldBorne/RiseBreak, and it really doesn't seem that way from my runs. The mod system for bowguns has replaced a ouple of skills, and ammo directly leveling seems to be a strict improvement for the 'base' triad of norm/spread/pierce. The addition of being able to Perfect Guard/power clash and normalized integrated Shield really seems to make up for the loss of mobility from Rise (RIP wirebugs). I can see the issues with spread not currently having any way to offset the currently enormous recoil and other specialized playstyles (Sticky/Slashing/Elemental) currently feeling left out in the cold, and that's where I'm hoping they come through in the Title updates and inevitable expansion.
Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying myself and looking forward to experimenting with GL and IG. Sould be wild for me trying to get those to work with MKB.
EDIT: Just for context, the wilds beta was my first serious foray into the series, enjoyed it so much I bought Rise and Sunbreak and cranked through to MR4 in the weeks before wilds release.
