It was true back then but at some point they unfucked it in a patch so now when you break something on a tempered mob, it gives more tempered investigations which makes sense. That's why you don't really have to farm tracks anymore, it was a stupid concept anyway. I haven't had to farm them since I got started getting 3 investigations off tempered Kirin for the HR49 quest and I have like 6 atm and a bunch I don't have active cause they're 2box kushala/teostra. Only time I end up joining SOS tempered is when I feel like doing Nergigante since this fucker never drops for me. Then it's like earlier and it's 3 archers and Nergi is just leaping from one side to the map to the other and I'm there trying to hit it more than once before it jumps again, feelsgoodman.

I made a Switch axe to check it out a bit since it was discussed earlier, I like the damage stuff but the movement is fucking terrible on that weapon. Have to constantly sheathe to move around to hit stuff, which is fine when it's like greatsword where you just whip out your big sword once you're done and slam the fucking monster real hard, but switch axe is all about chaining a bunch of moves together so fighting shit like Diablos who charges around constantly is a huge pain in the ass. Also I really dislike how I can climb on Diablos to shoot him in the face, but somehow if he starts a charge, I get hit by the charge even though I'm ON him. Like how. I got in some frenzy combo shit on a downed tempered rathian+legiana for the event thing though and it was pretty cool, I like how it chains from axe to sword and back.

Made a hunting horn too to do a couple of quests, went alright. Damage isn't terrible but it's not great either and moveset is kinda boring, also same issue as switch axe, you can't use any sort of gap closing move, but at least you run kinda fast with the speed buff you get from songs. I thought I'd get more KOs though, I keep hitting stuff in the head but they don't drop. Does break horns really quickly though so that's nice.
Horn is more of an exhaust weapon than a KO weapon.

Oh that might be why then, I did see some exhausting shit a lot, I just was expecting to KO these fuckers on their ass to get the encore combo off more often but it didn't happen much. I was just testing it out for a few hunts though, I made a cheap yet good hunting horn for it and was using a generic DPS build other than 1 horn maestro jewel so I didn't have to remember how to play attack too often.

Working on Nergigante farming. Need 4 tails for the last armour piece and the first weapon :(

What sort of SnS builds are you running?

My general set for almost everything except Laviasoth = Rath Helm + Chest + Gloves, Nerg Coil, Nerg Weapon, Death Stench Legs, KO3 Charm + Impact Mantle. I use 1 weakness exploit deco to get level 3, 2 dragon attack jewels to cap dragon dmg. The rath gloves have fire 2 which is enough to get to 20FR and negate burning. The rest are all critical eye jewels, I use 3 or 4 total. Impact mantle when youre alone with KO3 is basically broken, you keep the mob on the ground just chaining your charge combo into shield drops. I do most tempered elders in 5-9 minutes, yesterday I busted out 4 minute tempered Nergs twice.

Also I l2p and how to do a standing charge. You can hold forward and block and while doing so just tap back and circle or right click on mouse and the charge comes out from a block.

was a good time! I've found tails to always be the hardest to take out. Maybe I'm not hitting them far away enough from the body?

My friend NiCu and I got a tail cut last night, got him asleep in his den, bombed him with 4 mega barrels......and he woke up and killed us. Should have carved when we could!

Of course, right after that we had a clean no faint kill....no tail cut.

Pretty sure even hitting at the base of the tail counts as tail cut damage, however depending on the monster this might or might not be a weakspot(for example for vaal hazak the base of his tail isn't, which makes it more annoying to cut, although it comes off pretty quick solo). It's rough cutting tails in multiplayer as far as I've played though, even just focusing entirely on it they don't come off easily and then stuff tends to die too quick if there's 4players. You can still get tails from carving the main body even if it's not cut though.

Nergi sword is good? I assumed most people went for other stuff. I was thinking of making Barroth to test sword with since it looks easy enough to make and does a decent enough job. Other options would be legianna for ice damage but that's only really good against Teostra so I don't know. There's the paralyze one too but need 3/3 free elem, I have the charm so I could use that for 2 and xeno gloves(I think) for the last point like I do with my cluster set, I might try this one instead.

I'll look into the KO charm though, haven't made one yet but that sounds interesting.


Ran switch axe through teostra a few times, some of the kills were pretty bad but some were pretty brutal, kinda depends on what kind of bullshit moves he did mostly but the damage output was really high. I crafted the Diablos one since I had some spare mats after I got tailraiders to grab me LR Diablos shit, does a lot more damage than the basic metal one I was using before(which was poison element).

Yeah. Most are like 80% from a tail carve and only 12% from a body carve. But Nergigante is apparently only 70% from a tail carve and 0% from a body according to the wiki.

I think I just got a tail carve without his tail being cut, but maybe I'm mixing bosses. But yeah if you want tails it's better to solo for a bit it's pretty easy to get a tail cut solo, you can run normal investigations for more gem drops too and no risk of dying and just focus on destroying horns+tail for the various craft. I think I have a bunch of tails though I'm generally always capped by the amount of horns I have for Nergi. Or for most monsters in fact.

I vote that getting randomly dropped in zone instead of the camp is one of the most useless features of this game.

What do you mean no risk of dying? Do investigations have unlimited faints? Or just that randoms won't wipe you?

Investigations are not considered full-on hunts, they were called expeditions(in past MH's, but you could still 3 x out from it in 4/4U) makes it alot better when wanting to track-down monsters.

I really don't get why they scale monsters how they do in this game. Lost the other 2 people I play with so its only 2 of us now and every hunt we go on is like hard mode. Tried firing an SoS and just had noobs that sapped our carts almost instantly. So now we're forced to solo which completely just killed my ability to enjoy this game.

Not to mention DCs are back and fuck doing a tempered elder with 2.8 health solo so I just abandon and lose a tempered elder try.

I mean investigations, not expeditions, like what I said. Just the normal ones, not tempered ones, the boxes give more reward for gems, and since it's not tempered they do a lot less damage so you have to really try hard to die, if your armor is augmented. Like most nergi attacks will do 5% or so of your life bar, his dive does like 75% I think, so you can more or less facetank everything if it's not tempered and it's better for gem drops. It's just not very good since you don't get streamstones/decorations but when I'm looking specifically for gems I do some non tempered investigations, just rocksteady mantle and mash buttons until it dies not caring about healing, with cat on plunder for more chance at gems.

It was a pug that was newbish, but apparently they grew.

If I'm solo I can do it around 15 minutes or so, but I'm still not amazing at this game or anything.

Ah multiplayer I could see it taking a lot longer yeah. It's just more than 20mins seems awfully long for this boss, sure it's a huge hp sponge but you can kinda whack his leg almost the entire time with little risk of getting hit, and ranged obviously don't have many issues either.

I actually did 2 runs earlier cause the quest popped and I got a gem too, so I don't have to run it for a while again.

My main issue atm are fucking wyvern gems. I always try to get some when I'm farming for Diablos weapon but they don't drop often enough for the amount needed for various shit. Most of my blue/purple armor is actually not augmented because of that, it's weird that orange armor is elder dragon bones and the easy to get stones so I augmented everything even shit I barely use, but low tier stuff uses wyvern gem so I haven't touched anything because every other weapon upgrade path has a wyvern gem in it and you also need them to craft some specific armors or charms or whatever, and they only drop from a few specific monsters.
