This show is the kind of show you have to binge if the first season is any indicator. Because it started off really strong, then it went all "USA Network" on us for a few episodes, then it pulled it back together. The middle episodes of season 1 are just fucking stupid.
I still love Shela, even if her episode was fucking stupid!

Forgot how much shit happened in season 1, solid season 1 recap before tonight.

edit:
Must say, I really enjoyed the season premiere. Currently my favorite show on TV.

No comments on the actual episodes? lol

Show still blows my mind that it's on USA. It's like feature film level of quality.

I watched all of season 1 on Amazon and it was nice to hear them dropping f-bombs, etc. I hate that they censor it out on USA. I haven't watched the first new ep yet, but may wait to binge it all.

You sure about that? I'm almost certain they mute the fucks. They don't beep 'em or replace them, but they were definitely muted.

Loved the first two episodes, as Daly said I feel like I am cheating somehow watching it, like I should be paying movie theater prices for each episode or some shit. The cinematography, framing, writing, and music were all flawless. Man, Mrs. Tyrick is such a freak I love her.

The montage song from episode 1 was awesome, added it to my workout playlists. Wonder if the robot from the music video from 7 years ago is what got the showrunner to use it. Also the Phil Collins song in episode 2 was the best use of Phil since Miami Vice

So, I guess when the Underwoods are done screwing someone over, they go to Elliot's realm? Didn't Frank or someone also tell the whore joke on House of Cards?

Yeah, Lupe used to put out some really good stuff.

This shows quality is just incredible, add me to the list of people surprised this comes from USA. Sensational stuff.

the theory that elliot is in prison or a mental hospital in season 2 is pretty interesting. his "routine" consists of stuff you would do in jail : same place for all your meals, going to the rec area and sitting on bleachers watching people play ball for afternoon rec time, no access to computers, the whole routine of washing/bed making/etc, and getting phone access in short allotments. Would also put a whole new spin on his visit by gideon.

I don't know if I want this show to enter that level of mind fuckery. Having one schizophrenic hallucination might be enough.

Wow, that would seriously be insane. I find it's nearly impossible to ever figure out what's truly going on in this show. 98% of shit that comes out on television or in the movies usually telegraphs the plot/twist obviously. So nice to have something that keeps you guessing.

I would think people in a mental institutions visit shrinks. Probably requested her personally.
Most prisons and even many jails give access to MH treatment to their inmates. He could very easily be seeing a staff mental health treatment specialist. His mother makes a good prison guard/warden. She gets him up and tells him when he has to go to bed, etc. His bedroom basically contains the austere features any cell would. He would, of course, have a cell mate- unless he was in the psych ward, then they might give him his own cell.

I don't know if the prison/mental hospital theory is true, but there aren't a lot of contradictions to poke holes in the theory so far.

I can't recall, but that church group he goes to is all men (aside from the person running it) isn't it? That would be odd- unless it was a prison.

Edit: Come to think of it, has he interacted with any women that couldn't be considered prison staff?

Edit 2: Seinfeld reruns the only channel in the prison break room.

Edit 3: The more I think about it, the more I think the theory is legit. I was trying to think of anything that would disprove it and wondering about the whole dog thing at the basketball court. They run drug dogs through prison all the time. Craig Robinson is one the guards that handles the drug dogs and stopped by the prison yard b ball court to have a word with Eliot. Notice that Craig Robinson is the one who broke up the fight between the two other dudes-- like any prison guard would. He also wants a favor from Elliot and because he is a guard he is the only one in a position to get Elliot access to a computer .

Jesus, Eliot's in prison.

I don't see why the show would suddenly start having huge, episode long hallucinations from the perspective of the viewer through Elliott when they didn't in the first season. The narration isn't reliable, yes, but mostly through omission (he didn't remember that he had a sister, that Mr Robot was his dad, etc). Not in inventing a new reality whole cloth. It's a pretty silly theory, really.

And very much agreed on the comments on how quality the show is in terms of cinematography, music/sound, and so on. It's just really, really well done in almost every respect. Not that I'm any sort of expert in that kind of thing.

Well, they kind of did do that in a lot in the first season though.

Well, if he can full hallucinate his father, I'm not sure why he couldn't hallucinate his entire situation. Not by inventing a new reality altogether, but just by altering reality enough so that it gives him the illusion that he has control of his situation. After all, what is it his father keeps telling him? Control is an illusion. He has no control because he's incarcerated.

The theory may be off, but there are a ton of coincidences- it's certainly not silly.

No, they didn't. Again, lots of the stuff Elliott as Mr Robot was up to was omitted, but there were no scenes or events that he outright hallucinated that didn't otherwise happen. When he was in Coney Island, he was in Coney Island. When he was working for whatever the cyber security firm was called, that was real too. His girlfriend or squeeze or whatever did get murdered. What scenes or events in season 1 were entirely hallucinations that didn't actually happen? And I don't mean his conversations with his alter-ego/father.

Dude has obviously hallucinated all kinds of stuff, from conversations and fights with his father, to being pushed off piers, to being shot in the head. Yes, most of the things he hallucinated that I can think of off the top of my head involve his father, but once you open the door to the fact that the dude has full-blown hallucinations, I'm not sure why you think they have to be limited to his father.
