So I just pulled a foil Treasure Cruise. Since this card is wanted to Legacy and what not, would it be best to sit on it? Or should I trade it off?

My rule of thumb in the past (when I opened more product) was to get rid of foil Legacy/Vintage movers asap, because you could generally trade pretty well due to supply and demand. If you're really feeling adventurous, get a hold of a second one and sit on it as an investment for the future, but personally I'd go browsing to see its current worth and play rate because chances are it's good for you right now.

With cruise there is also a reasonable possibility it gets banned in legacy and I would imagine its about a 90% chance of getting banned in modern. I would dump it pretty soon.

This makes sense to me. Might drop it for a fetch or something. I think I might know some people next week who will want it.

I'll have to think it over a bit. A lot of people don't feel like TC will get banned.

Suspect it is closer to 50/50 on getting banned. It was only in a minority of the top 8 decks in the Modern GP a few weeks ago, although it was in the winning deck. It didn't dominate the Modern stage in the World Championship this week. Not to say that it doesn't deserve to be banned, but I don't think there is the proof there that R&D will want to justify admitting they got it wrong in releasing the card.

Whatever the truth it's definitely a gamble keeping hold of it. I'd probably be trying to get a foil Monastery Swiftspear out of it which is seeing more play, is uncommon rather than common and isn't going to be banned,

Things that suggest MM2/a non standard set in 2015 :

1. Modern Masters was only released in English. Many significant Modern cards have never been printed in Chinese/Russian/Korean/Portugese/Japanese not to mention Spanish/German/French/Italian not getting MM.

2. Wizards are ramping up their promotion of non Standard formats. They make no money out of that unless they print cards that can be played in non Standard.

3. Second set in current block has been moved from March to January. Third set has been moved from May to March. More than one effect with this :

i) This years financial results (2014/15) are going to be up an extra set. This will put significant financial pressure on the following year (2015/2016).

ii) There is presently only one core set and one block set (Blood) scheduled for the nine month period from March 2015 to Christmas 2015.

iii) There is presently only one core set and two block sets (Blood and Sweat) scheduled to release in the financial year 2015/16, whereas one core set and four block sets (JOU, KTK, Fate Reforged and Louie) will release in financial year 2014/15.

When you look at the evidence above there is a significant time window May-June. May 30/31 2015 there are simultaneously 3 GPs taking place in Europe, NA and Japan. Then in June there are three Modern format GPs on successive weekends.

2015 PRO TOUR AND GRAND PRIX SCHEDULE REVEALED | MAGIC: THE GATHERING

Of particular note is the three transcontinental GPs on the same day end May. It's been announced it's Limited and also that there will be a big special announcement about it before the end of this year. Helene Bergeot : "We're trying something different and we want to make sure that it's on everybodys radar". "Put that date in your diaries because there is going to be something awesome".

The weight of evidence is enough for me to believe that a significant non Standard product will ship in 2015 and that it's likely to be MM2, to the extent that I am planning for it financially. I believe that the print run will be larger than MM and that we will see 'Modern Limited' at both PT/GPs and FNM. It may not be called MM2 and it may feature a higher percentage of new cards. Of course none of that may be the case, but that's what this branch of the hobby is about - speculating.

Modern Masters May 2015. Called it including the date.

Oh and ... sell, sell, sell :

Really? I found the first one really fun to draft. Even though I never got the graveyard deck to work for me.

Every year just sounds miserable, interferes with other set releases, too many reprints kills the value of cards, too hard to make a unique draft format every year, lots of problems.

Also it conflicts with their decision to reduce the emphasis on modern on the pro tour in favor of standard to promote new card sets.

I'm okay with it, the price of making a deck in modern is to damn high right now.

Still, a few of my cards are going to take a hit because of this.

I dunno. Loses some appeal if it's a yearly thing. There's only so much desirable shit to reprint after all. We'll probably get Puresteel. Maybe a couple affinity guys who matter. Elesh Norn. Karn probably. We'll get to see if another printing can knock Wurmcoil down to a $5 mythic. Noble H would be decent. Pretty much no chance on JTMS but I could see Stoneforg showing up. Batterskull. What else could reasonably show up that people would give a shit about?

It's the new core set! Remember when core set was all reprints?
If it WAS the new core set that would be awesome, if the cards were standard legal. But that's not what's going on. What's going on is they're making a reprint set every year that isn't standard legal, at least as far as I know.
