The category that MTG falls in for Hasbro had gaming revenue of something like $273.3 million (Hasbro Reports Revenue, Operating Profit and Net Earnings Growth for Second Quarter 2017 (NASDAQ:HAS)). A company pulling in this much profit decides the best way to handle a single guy is to ban his DCI number, nuke his MTGO account, and then join some report spam campaign to get him off Patreon? Christ, the next time somebody leaves a negative review on my Ebay account I'll just shoot them in the face. Or maybe they could have just ignored him because he is an insect compared to them.

The guy is talking about having over 10.5k people threatening to boycott MTG unless he's reinstated plus an unknown number of customers lost that don't want to bother with the reinstate petitions.

Financially, he absolutely is an insect in comparison - but due to the nature of social networks amplifying one's voice, his voice has reached a ton of people that are potentially causing a financial impact. Also from his own statements, they're bogging down WOTC and Hasbro support lines with the issue, including departments that HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH MTG.

And if you want a more direct example - people striking against a business that are completely blockading customers and employees from entering/exiting.

And regardless of your opinion on the situation - the idiot shouldn't be making tons of money off of his drama, I don't care enough personally to invest the time in a complaint to Patreon myself though.

MTG cosmically mishandled this situation and this is the end result. If one guy with stale jokes can start a counter-campaign this devastating then Yu-Gi-Oh should start recruiting NEETs from 4chan to bring down the rest of their trading card competitors.

Hurray for the current year of e-begging. Where any angle people can get to up their Patreon dollars is all they want. Both UnsleevedMedia and cspranklerun profited from this shit show because drama brings in people which brings in dollar bills.

Not sure what "financial impact" most of his followers will cause, since it sounds like most of them don't even buy and sealed product and not even much secondary market from what I've seen from comments going back.

From admissions already made on his Twitter by himself and others - they're blocking the support lines from taking any other calls and plenty of them are mentioning trying to undermine their LGSs along with Wizards/Hasbro - which we all know what would happen to physical MTG without LGS's - it's a symbiotic relationship.

Success level is ??? of course, I'm sure they're exaggerating their effectiveness - but their claims are absolutely disruptive if effective.

They fact they want to undermine 3rd parties who are not really all that involved in the matter (I would assume), is just....wow.

Well, they're lightly involved since they effectively are the enforcement arm of the DCI (his DCI ban would mean nothing if LGS's still let him in smaller events after all - at least I think so, he's not a pro, right? Just a vocal dude...) - but yea, that's why my earlier "terrorism" analogy didn't feel completely over the top to me, with some of the stupidity involved I'd not be surprised to hear there's some trying to rabble-rouse against their printers and other loosely associated parts as well. The whole thing is stupid on so many levels.

Attacking an entire supply chain instead to send a message rather than just attacking the target of their ire directly are the methods of terrorists... I was referring to the methodology of including all sorts of anyone loosely related, not design of the attack, Jesus Christ.

Lack of care about collateral damage (or openly inviting it), etc.

There is no DCI to speak of. It stopped existing as an organization years ago. The initials are just vestigial, it's all WotC.

It was a separate org waaaay back in the day that was the organizing tournament body. Probably for tax reasons or something. Eventually they gave that up and it merged into WotC proper.
