I'm still convinced the foil curling over the past few years is a form of planned obsolescence.

Back when DVDs where new a company called flex play released movies with a chemical coated DVD that turned black and thus unreadable after 48 hours. The package was air tight and once exposed the process started.

It was a huge failure ofcourse.

I can't wait for Wizards to make special packs for draft that have the same material. Draft only packs that turn solid black after being cracked.

Oko prices will rebound over time. While obviously really high because of how much it warped standard it's played in every constructed format it's legal in including Vintage.

There are enough okos in print to keep the price stable for now, it's not nearly in demand in other formats and barely played in pioneer.

It will be a $35 walker for a while.

Yeah, it'll be a little while before it rebounds and that will be fairly slow. First step is the next set being released so that it's not the current draft format.

Stack of commons and uncommon foils from normal pre-release and normal packs. (I think I opened 8 pre-release kits, 2 gift boxes and 1 box for fun).

Apple TV (no other use for it. Garbage) + Cards Against Humanity + 2019 + War of the Spark to flatten them out... ft. the set that ruined magic.

Yes-
Its a very tiny portion of my overall investments.

I wanted something physical to collect and manage as a hobby. Card collecting runs in my family (My dad has a stupid large comic card and tcg card collection)

I always felt like sealed product was just hoarding, but I don't have a leg to stand on when it comes to dumb collectibles.

Normally I'd agree. I'd love to crack open to try and aim for full sets but dealing with the bulk makes me cringe.

I just had to completely reorg my shit with the launch of pioneer, I can sympathize with not wanting to deal with bulk.

Actually had to replace the shelving in one of the book-cases since the modern common/uncommon boxes had it on the brink of snapping. And that's with dumping all copies of bulk in excess of 8 onto the Magic club at the school I work at.

Yeah. I'm pretty much limiting myself to 2 boxes of each set max being opened. Keep 4 of each common/uncommon max and give away the rest to a local LGS. They can sell if they want... I don't care. They are doing me a favour by taking it off my hands. Otherwise I'd just toss in the trash.

Selling the bulk isn't worth my time.

Star City launching a site overhaul today. All articles are now premium, but premium articles now unlock for non-members after one week. They plan on ramping up content production and using the income from universal premium to improve content producer pay.

They are of course launching on a Friday,, which will lead to the site being a clusterfuck all weekend.

On the one hand, good on them for ostensibly trying to get more $ to their content. On the other hand, its not really worth paying for something that I half-read throughout the day at work, and if I have to go digging back a week through archives to find some free "daily" content (not you, crap videos) I'm just gonna stop going there.

The layout is
also AIDS if
you only have
your browser
on half the
screen like
I do at work.

Shit is like that to the bottom of the page, ugh.

It's actually clever, because it emphasizes the time sensitive nature of metagame evolution. With MTGO and weekly events, being a week behind the times is a big deal for your standard SCG grinder barnacle.

this is funny on multiple levels, completely mind boggling wotc didn't start this 20 years ago

Well 20 years ago they needed people to go into LGS stores, so they left them the singles market. Now you don't need to even know what an LGS is to get your cards.

They've been slowly fucking LGS more and more over the last few years. it's really getting absurd at this point.

If you go back to '99 all the nerds of that era and the geezers still walking around today remember the total collapses in sports cards, comics and other trading/comic cards. All the different box topper gimmicks, alternate version promos and even direct sales go a long way back predating MtG completely. Magic cards being game pieces and thus having utility let it transcend its superficially similar cousins. Gameplay and competition are strong drivers of emotional connection and comradery far beyond the simple trading and collecting offered by comic book cards.

But WotC could still fuck it all up.
