When this initially launched the feedback was pretty negative so I stayed away but it seems people are still playing it and kind of enjoying it? Is it just because there is nothing else or is this genuinely enjoyable for what it is?
It's decent for a free to play mmo compared to most of the shit currently out. There is really no end game (no raids, gear score unlocks higher instance difficulty that drops slightly better gear), the classes are not balanced and most likely never will be, pvp as a result is a tad ridiculous and shallow, the majority of items share skins so everyone really looks the same and some classes just look not good (hi TR), the economy is a tad fucked up due to all the exploits that were never fixed since closed beta, and if you really wanted to you could go 1-60 legit under a week really easily. The community also seems to have a large amount of the generic F2P bads/idiots who make life miserable by rolling need on everything and doing stupid shit, but that's to be expected to some extent really.

Believe it or not, if you take your time and find a class you enjoy the game isn't bad and can provide you with nearly a months worth of casual entertainment. Some of the environments actually look nice and some of the story is kinda cool. I spent 1-30 blazing through the content and skipping all the dialogue/story just going from quest to quest and I ended up regretting it. I slowed down from 40-50, read some of the story, looked around a bit, and I had a vastly better experience. You do level really fast though so if you want to experience some of the content you have to jump on it almost immediately as it unlocks or you won't be able to queue (which if you're interested in the story is problematic as some stuff can be spoiled or feel spoiled well before you progress to that part in the main story).

If you're looking for something to take seriously at all in any way, don't bother with the download as you'll be quickly disappointed. If you have nothing better to play and don't care about the end game, you'll probably find the first week or two rather enjoyable.

Lost like 10 levels, what a bunch of incompetent shits. Knew I shouldn't have played a chinaman game.

The surface gameplay is sort of fun. Nice controls, genuinely interesting leveling content that plays a lot like NWN. If you scratch the surface in any way, i.e. play more than like a couple of weeks or try to be hardcore/competitive about it, the game reveals itself to be total discount crap. It's fine for brief casual play, but it's not a game that holds up to any kind of scrutiny, and I definitely wouldn't pay anything for it.

So on a forum for gamers, we have people who apparently are upset that they lost several hours, after they played when a game destroying issue was still being debated as too how it would be fixed?
Did the thought of a partial rollback never occur to you guys? Did you just not have anything else to do this weekend? Seriously, how can gamers on a MMO forum not have considered this as an option and be all butthurt about it?

Either you have fun playing or you don't; if you don't why play? If you do then whats the problem?

Yeah, it's an action RPG. It's fluffy light fun. I disagree though and I think it'd be worth a box price, personally. I'm still playing it which is better than a lot of recent MMOs.

In my opinion this game is far more fun than D3 and is a great distraction. I don't play action RPG hardcore. It's not like the story or gameplay is really that addictive, and I agree there isn't a ton of depth.

If I lost a few hours, no big deal. It does suck, but really I think I'll be casually screwing around with this game for a while. It's no MMO replacement, but it's fun.

Or... How about the game destroying bug isn't there in the first place and doesn't erase hours of play.. Silly them to be frustrated that a few hours work (may be all they get that week) is simply erased because the devs were incompetent. That's it. Blame the whining gamers that are the clients and not the actual creators of the fucken game. Fuck me.

Personally I'm not upset. On the other hand, I'm not looking forward to redoing the same content again. Also, while I definitely agree with the "Either you have fun playing or you don't; if you don't why play?", you have to remember that part of the fun in a game like this is the progress itself (levels, gear etc). If people didn't enjoy that part there would not be any loot or levels. Losing progress is never popular.

Since this game has been plagued by exploits since the "open beta" started a rollback has indeed been a constant danger. That said, not sure if it was instantly obvious even to the people that did read the forums before logging in that this particular exploit would result in a rollback when the previous ones did not. After all, general rollbacks in MMOs are very uncommon and an extreme last resort when all other options have been exhausted. No matter how they try to sugar coat it, many players will lose a lot of confidence in the company.

I blame the creators of the game just fine, but even if every possible step was taken there are gonna be bugs thats just a fact of programming. If that bug is something that destroys a games economy, and the devs are still investigating it, then you playing is a risky proposition and you have nobody but yourself to blame if you lose that time. Acting all butthurt like you never played an online game before is flat out stupid.

Can one of you guys explain what this "unsigned integer" bug thing is? Is it like a variable that overflowed with data or something? Maybe a layman programmer's explanation?

Refers to a type of variable. An integer is just that, an integer. So 42 but not 42.0655 etc. An unsigned variable means that 42 is a valid entry into that variable but -42 is not.

Imagine that you are doing math by spinning a wheel where the wheel is numbered 0 to 255. You look at the number '42' and starting at 0 spin the wheel 42 spaces clockwise and are at... 42. If however you spin the wheel 42 spaces counter clockwise (due to allowing a mathematical operation on a presumed positive number) you end up at 213 which is entirely the wrong value.

Now imagine if the maximum instead of being 255 is 100million...

Since when does a rollback cause such uproar? I admit its been a while but I experienced several rollbacks of the whole server during EQ, and people were annyoed but that's it. Now the idea of a 1 day rollback seems to literally kill the game. When I read about the D3 mistake that was similar I found it lame that Blizzard didnt simply roll back after they fucked up with the gold sales recently.

Well, in their defense, in Neverwinter you can make quite a bit of progress in one day. Also, lockboxes.

go to vegas. "exploit" a flaw in a slot machine and see what happens to you. its both outright illegal, and the fear of what the casino itself will do to you, is a pretty big deterrent.
Couple things. First, if a machine is broken and you keep playing it and winning a ton money you are not breaking any laws and you will not go to jail. They can not pay you the winnings if they prove the machine was broken and will kick you out if you do something like counting cards, but the police will not be involved and they have no grounds to sue you.

So once again, your idea is retarded

The negative hyperbole surrounding this game is staggering and I really don't understand it. I actually confused about what caused so many people around here to go into the game with such a negative view before even playing a minute of it. To me, everything that people are complaining about has been such an absolutely minor or non-existant hindrance to my enjoyment of the game that I can't understand the massive backlash it's getting. Don't get me wrong, I'm no fanboy of this company; this is the first game I've played from them. Maybe it's because I haven't played an MMO since EQ/FF11 early on and I'm not as jaded about the industry.

Have they had server instability, leveling exploits, AD exploits? Yeah, and from what I can tell they're actively working to fix them. None of those have affected me to any amount that I can even notice other than the servers being down. Other than that, none of it affects me whatsoever. If this weren't marketed as an MMO, and people viewed it as more of a PoE/D3/Titan Quest type game it would probably be very well received. I can understand not liking the controls, or animations, or being locked into attacks, but some of you act like the game is the biggest pile of shit you've ever played. There seems to be a herd mentality that's causing a lot of you to hate the game. I've played it quite a bit for the 3-ish weeks it's been out, and it's been fun. I spent $10 on a bag, and that's it. Even if I stopped playing now I would call that a pretty damn great return on my money. The game has problems, yes, but so does just about every single game I've played in the last few years. Maybe some of you were going into it expecting end-game guild raids or something. The end game is the same as every other ARPG; grind gear just to grind gear and be able to do tougher bosses. Is there some great end game that Diablo, Titan Quest, Torchlight have after you grind the best shit?

I can understand not enjoying the game, but some of you are so over the top that I've got to shake my head. The game has a lot of great shit going for it, and once tweaked and perfected, the foundry will be awesome.

Yep. I imagine part of the rollback rage is because of stuff like that -- it's a bug that's been around for alongtime, and it didn't exactly go unreported, either. Also, this admin postdoesn't exactly inspire confidence that the developers understand the full extent to which the exploit was abused.

Btw I find it hilarious the Cryptic is still calling it "open beta" , "Beta stage" and "Beta community".
