Alienware is giving away some keys that give some potions, scrolls and a title. Need to just register an account. About 5800 left as of now.

Anyone who has had some time spent with Foundry want to give their views on it? Seems like the only real interesting feature in the game.
That key isn't worth the time it takes to register on that site, unless you've got a hard on for the Underdark Explorer title.

The Foundry is a great tool, it's very versatile and easy to use, the only real limitations are the ones that Cryptic have put on it, like you can't edit mobs stats etc. Of course, not many people are bothering with Foundry quests right now, since Cryptic nerfed the xp you get for them by like 75%. They might figure out a way to avoid exploits and put back the xp, I hope they do.

They actually buffed the xp back supposedly. Probably still have a nerf in place for killing the same mob over and over or whatever I don't know.

I've done a few of the highest rated foundry maps, and they were pretty boring. Mostly the point was reading semi wall of texts on NPC dialogues, which in some cases were fairly interesting. I feel the combat and the fact you can't have meaningful rewards other than the end chest(to prevent abuse obviously) and even that is normalized and randomized, means you can't really make real interesting stuff. Can't have an epic adventure with new loot cause obviously you can't generate loot, you can't change how traps work, how you disable them(well the fact that you can't if you're not a rogue), might be able to do simplisitc puzzles but nothing too elaborate either so it all boils down to setting/story and the usual combat. Doesn't seem like there's near enough control on the tools to create really interesting content. Maybe later but since it's a mmo and stuff it has to have many limitations that wouldn't be an issue if the game was a single player game(maybe with coop too).

I'm still learning the ins and outs of the Foundry, but what I wanted to try to do, is tell the story as much as possible with action and events, and npc interactions with each other, and less with walls of text. Show, not tell, basically. Instead of just walk 20 feet, kill 5 mobs, rinse repeat, I want the player to be kind of swept up in what's going on.

Edit: Man, Cryptic sure knows how to be cryptic with their damn patch notes.

Kill XP limiters have been improved and relaxed. So informative, lol. Definitely have to check it out, though. Thanks for the info.

I'm working on a foundry quest right now but I agree it's pretty limited and reminds me of the City of Heroes Mission Architect system.

Fun fact about the MA system in CoH: I designed a mission that was themed around the Priceline Negotiator vs The Travelocity Gnome and before it was banned due to copyright issues it yielded nearly 1.7 million plays and I lost track of the number of tokens it earned. People seemed to have a good time with it since it didnt take itself seriously.

I'm doing the same thing with the Foundry now but since the exp nerf and the system limitations I doubt it's going to see many playthroughs.

Anyone know a guide for dungeon hidden chest? I know the important one in first dungeon involved picking up items and placing on altar. Ran second dungeon and we couldn't find anything thought. Not sure if there is one but was told there's one in every dungeon.

Cloak tower secrets.
Puzzles

In the Labyrinth section of the dungeon, there are two secret doors that can be opened simply by killing all the Orcs in that area. They can be a little hard to find (it is a labyrinth after all), but kill them all and two secret doors will open revealing a chest for everyone to loot.

The two puzzles previously mentioned involve finding three objects for each within the Tower and placing them on altars in the exit room. One altar requires three crystals while the other requires three plants. They can be a little tricky to spot, but as long as your group of fearless adventurers works together and keeps their eyes open, you'll have no problems. Since killing Vansi doesn't result in a loot chest (unless you're playing during a special event), then solving these puzzles is the only way to make any chests spawn before you leave.

The three crystals (red, green, and blue) are the easiest to find. The red crystal is on a table in the room where you killed Mazred the Foul. The green crystal is in that general area. It's on a table within the Apprentice Chambers. The blue crystal is a little harder to locate, but at is at the edge of the pool at the bottom of the blue crystal garden. Walk around the edges of the pool of water and you'll see one crystal out of all the other blue crystals that has floating dust around it. When you get to the exit room, place all three crystals on the altar and a chest will appear.

The three plants are a little easier. The Starflower is on a table, once again in the room where you killed Mazred the Foul. The glow berries can be found at the fork in the Botanical Gardens, where going right and down leads not only to the Throg the Ravenous, but the final plant as well. Grab the Gingershroom he drops and you're all set. Place all three items on the other altar in the exit room and a chest will appear.
Ta-Dah!

The 20 ogre runs are still producing better EXP than normal questing for me, dunno if that's just 1-ogre short of the cap or something.

They're boring as hell, though.

It's like they don't want people to play this game. I couldn't register on their site because someone had already used my email address. That someone was me, because several years ago I bought Torchlight off of steam, and I guess I had to register on PW for that? yet they never sent me any email with my login details because that game didn't require login details. So after requesting my login name and a PW reset it took 12 hours for their servers to send me an email with the details.

Now i've been trying to DL the game from their site for the last 2 hours, just got back to my computer and it's stuck at 5%. There were 0 seeders available to DL it via torrent, and the mirrors are all so terribly slow, but terribly slow is better than stuck @ 5% so that's what i'm doing now.
I had severe trouble logging in in beta. Because of PWE, Torchlight, Star Trek Online and Champions, they had all my logins in a spaghetti knot. I sent a ticket in when beta started, they sent me back an elaborate process to log into each account to link things, and the first link they sent me in the process didn't even work.

I sent them back another ticket saying um no, you fix it. I'm a paying customer, not my fault you bought all these games. The CS did to his credit fix it, but after this, a lot of time had elapsed, and that's why I never logged in until open beta, even though I was in a much much earlier beta cycle.

Just made 16 with my Rogue, any suggestions for my free companion? Cleric seems a bit obvious as heals always tend to help, but not sure if Dog may be good just to improve damage and tear through things quicker.

Cleric is ok, all she really does is make you not have to worry about pots at low-mid levels. And since gold is hardly used in game, once you get your mount you can pretty much buy and carry as many pots as you want. She draws crazy aggro, which becomes a pain later on. I've been alternating between cleric and the wolf from the founder's pack. I'm considering trying out the meatshield, if he can hold aggro and tank decently, seems like it might be better, since companions have (fast) out of combat regen, unlike players.

Edit: Tip about companions. If you have one maxed and want to level another one, summon the one you want to level before quest turn in, they get a portion of your quest xp too, not just kills.

Far as I can tell the exp in the foundry is back to being good. Did a ogre gauntlet mission and the exp per kill was great again. No exp at all after a handful of kills though so that is still in place. So as long as you didn't have your heart set on making a ogre invasion campaign you should be fine to make stuff again.

Edit: lol, that will teach me to have rerolled in the background all day. Replied reading posts like 2 pages ago and forgot to refresh.

No, it's good, we still don't have very precise info on what was changed. Can you elaborate a little more? I'm a little confused by "the exp per kill was great again. No exp at all after a handful of kills though" I haven't run any since the original nerf.

Just did my first dungeon at 24 and a fucking rogue rolled need on all the boss drops which was caster loot that I could use. I swear he was spamming shift+1 on every single loot that dropped and winning. Why the fuck they even allow in an MMO just boggles my mind.

Yeah, there's a lotta grief on the official forums about need/greed rolls. And the usual fucktards who respond with either "everyone does it so I do too, and so should you! It all evens out!" and "Ineedstuff to sell to buy upgrades".

I don't care much about greens, but letting people roll need for other classes class-restricted blue items, ugh, newbish design mistake. What's worse is it probably isn't a mistake, someone at Cryptic probably did it this way on purpose. Crazy devs, or retarded, you take your pick.

Wow, this is rich. This thread was at the top of Gen Dis when I just popped over and had this post:

"And THIS is the problem right here. What makes that drop Yours? Simply because on a random roll of 1 to 5 it hit your class? Didn't everyone put in the same amount of work? And yet everyone rolling equally on an item they all equally helped to get is such heresy as to be worthy of blacklisting and banning. Now ill agree, it can be a bit rude. But rude is not against the rules. In fact the rules, as provided by Cryptic, are pretty clear."

Edit: What's even better, is that (from what I've heard) epics are boe and have the same problem... Can't wait to get to 60 and have some jack-off need on my epiczzzz.

I was getting a bar-ish of exp per ogre kill in the foundry quest I ran. Which is about what I was getting in the ogre box mission pre-nerf. However, about half way into this mission they stopped giving exp. Not a single pixel moved on my exp bar. I'd need to run it again to know exactly when the exp shut off. So basically ogres are a great exp addition to a quest, just can't use more then like 10.
