So this is worth a little fun for someone that hasn't played it? Not expecting a longterm gaming experience, just something fresh.
Need something to chill with alongside EQ/Teek, cause I ain't getting anything done outside of raids the way the server is with all the box armies running around.
I started NW about a year ago and loved it. The game took forever to load on my decent PC but once I was logged in, I rarely had performance issues (I did have to drop the settings a bit).
Once you reach max level and hit the grind as someone mentioned above, the shine really starts to lose its luster and quick too. For example, maxxing out crafting skills is an absolutely massive timesink and costly, but what makes it even worse is that there really is very little reason to even do it.
They've spent a lot of time recently working on the leveling game again, which is odd because most of its playerbase is max level. And unlike most other MMOs, there's little reason to create alts due to the way character progression, skills, etc are designed. The only reason to have any is if you want to play on multiple servers.
I mentioned MMO because in a strange turn of events, the dev team has decided to re-invent the game as more of an ARPG instead of a MMO. This was the basis of their announcement in June as that games convention. Take what you will of that and what it means but my instinct says it's because they feel ARPGs are more in demand by gamers these days instead of the latter, which makes sense given their other recent announcements for controller support and console launches.
All that being said, I haven't logged in even once in at least 2 months and don't see myself doing so any time soon. The community is also pretty shitty and toxic but I'm guessing many of them aren't logging in much anymore either.
