I would strongly recommend joining “doubloon runs” in CK. A good run can net you over 500 doubloons a day, plus loot from chests. In CK there is a pool of water you can trade the doubloons to for specific gear or “gamba” chests that can give you up to 710 gear score. You can also buy a key once every 3 days that lets you open a chest on the border of the CK PvP zone that gives you 500 doubloons. You cant really solo the doubloon run, the elites hit like freight trains and respawn super fast. You can get high 600s/700s gear pretty quick this way, although ideal stats/perks will depend on RNG

Mutated dungeons can also drop some desired items and artifacts, but they are capped at 700gs.

725 is actually, but you're limited in how you can get GS that high (gorgon raid drops and PVP isle are the 2 avenues)

Got it. I thought 725 was the new max, but I've seen multiple folks talking about 710 stuff. If I were going to invest time into gear, I'd go straight for the best. <Shrug>

Thanks. I've been doing some dubloon stuff, but def not very efficiently i'm sure. Did some of the dailies last night. I need a syllabus or something for all the short words that people use in chat lol. I had no idea what CK was till your post. And there are so many others people use that I have no idea if i should hop on to them. I also bought that key the other day, never got a chance to use it and it was gone the next day, but still on cooldown to buy another :/

Def still enjoying the game, way more fun than first launch. I need to try some pvp but as a healer/light armor wearer the little bit i've done I just get smoked.

Healers definitely want mobility in PVP because people will be on your ass 24/7. Because of this, you'll see many healers pick a secondary weapon that has a good mobility skill. Like in the past, popular picks were rapier and firestaff purely because they had skills that let you escape clumps.

ok so only half paying attention cus who listens to quest dialogue, but it finally dawned on me that they have radically altered not just the new game experience but the lore/storyline is now completely different than before.

When this game launched it really was about the "new world", it was an unknown sort of storm, we all crash landed here, nobody knew shit it was all a mystery, establishing a beach head....it had this, kind of a gold rush feel to it, to discover this mystery island, the corruption, etc. I remember tons of corruption spawns, the various azoth staffs, etc.

now, this place is well known and established, it's Aeternum, we've been living here for hundreds if not thousands of years. Nobody can die so we all just respawn. Everything has been discovered, everything is known....it's just...idk completely different and I don't know why they changed any of this?

The main reason they changed it up is so they could introduce new historical factions, like the Romans or Ancient Egyptians or Vikings. Which makes sense, gives you more flexibility in the types of areas you can visit instead of things being just some Quasi-1500/1600s theme.

Oh.. thats kind of ... sad, I guess. I didnt think the story was a master class or anything - but it was neat in thought / mind. Now it sounds like an episode of "From" - which, I cant knock it without seeing it. But that goes against the whole getting washed up on the beach, doesnt it?

I mean people are already here when we wash ashore even in the original retail version of the story and there are full blown towns - it isn't like our expedition was the first people here even in that version. The early alpha/beta "Rust in the 1500s" fit better with the "we're washed ashore" because there originally was going to be no towns except what players built. When they dumped the Rust model, they went for a more traditional story narrative.

They basically redid the storyline a bit to better explain why Thorpe was going to the New World and made it part of an overarching storyline involving the Ancients and the creation of corruption. Basically the ancients made some beacon that drew humans to the island and humans worshiped the ancients as gods in pre-history times. They empower some humans and the corruption develops somehow. Ancients get destroyed/vanish, but the beacon is still active and still draws various people to the island throughout history. It also explains that while people functionally become immortal here, the longer they live the greater the chance that they can become corrupted or turned into "lost".

in the original retail launch we weren't the "first" to wash ashore but we are very much amongst the first. The storm is very new and people have only been crash landing here within it seems like only the last year or so. The settlements are all haphazardly assembled out of driftwood and shit, as player housing expands we are the ones building up the city into a thing. When we arrive it seems as these are shanty towns that have all been erected within the last few months. All of the lore is about this unexplored new world and establishing a beachhead and investigating this corruption that caused this storm so that we could potentially leave.

Yes as we level up and explore further into the jungles and shit we discover more ancient ruins and shit and realize people have been here for a while, which is why it seems so silly to completely redo the lore just to add more ancient shit. The existing lore had no problem adding romans or vikings or any other ancient peoples as we continue to explore deeper into the jungle.

Now when you start the game and wash up ashore there is 1 dude on the beach who is like "king of the beach" who is this silly hermit who guides you and shit but he's been living on the beach guiding ship wrecked peoples to the town for hundreds of years there is no mystery any more it's just so blase

They wanted more a narrative drive story - like now they spend all this time building up Yonas and whatever and going into the lore of the Soulwardens. In the original version, you meet him and he's all "ur a soulwarden now" and then a few quests later he dies. Then you go to Shattered Mountain and the story just abruptly ends.

Personal preference, I like the current story telling style (even though it isn't perfect - the whole Ebonscale story with the Empress is incredibly rushed). Then again, I like narrative MMOs like FF14.

Looks like my audio problems are fixed with this "new" version of the game.

I'm screwing around a bit but not sure if I want to go through the slog again. It's been a few years since I've played now. What I really like doing in MMORPG's is making a class that can get through a group finder relatively quickly (made a healer this time) and just run instances to level and gear. WoW and FFXIV were really good for this but if I remember correctly new world didn't have a dungeon finder. Is that still the case or is it easier to find groups now? I don't have the time anymore to arrange groups with people and spam LFG chat to play a game.

Im not sure if the lower level dungeons work like WoW's dungeon finder, but I know at max level they have an LFG tool that works similar to WoW's Mythic+.

There is no slog left aside from crafting/gathering, even then theres 1st time craft bonuses and other shit to speed it along as well. Leveling up has been a great casual experience in-between everything else. 1-max is a couple weeks at most where as old leveling resembled early WoW where you were lucky to do a level a day after a certain point.

The game is chill as fuck atm and pretty easy going

I just gave up and spam "E" now so that I am not exposed to any of this story since it is demonstrably worse than the original storyline.

I've played like 5 hours and am lvl 25, trying to do the first dungeon but I didnt see a lfg tool or dungeon finder thing, didn't really look into it too hard tho
