On top of all that they almost never make even near the full amount of their contract. It was a big deal last year when The Ben became the first of the guys with a $100 million contract to actually make over $70 million of it.

It depends on state income tax more than anything. Lets take Texas to make it easy (0% state tax). Fed takes 39.6%. Agent takes 3%. Now throw in everything else and the player is lucky to take home 50%. In a state with state income tax, it must be less than 50%.
