So you have Jerry Jones (Al Davis East? What's our nickname here...) dying within the next few months, the Cowboys dumping all their existing contracts (Raiders East? This is getting spooky...) and yet somehow finding enough 7th round / undrafted free agents to compete with the NFL equivalent of couch cushion change you'll have left for your salary cap to start a new golden age.
To be blunt, I find that unlikely.
Jerry hasn't been "running" the team for at least 3-4 years now, it's pretty obvious - it looks to mostly be Stephen Jones, Jason Garrett, and Will McClay at this point. Jerry still shows the illusion he's in charge to the media but it's obvious that something has changed.
Look at all the evidence:
1) Pretty good drafts in the last 3-4 years, like actually drafting offensive linemen (although it may be too late for Romo at this point) and the ultimate Jerry pick Manziel gets passed on. Compared to some of Wade/Jerry drafts from 2007-2009 these last few years have been amazing.
2) Letting one year wonders, and players over 30 (with the exception of Romo) walk if they are asking too much. Generally Jerry would give his stars whatever they ask.
3) Getting their young, elite talent locked up to long, team-friendly deals (Tyron Smith, Dan Bailey, and soon Dez) with the cap space from letting the above players walk.
4) Getting rid of all the trouble makers, diva's, etc (this was the first thing Jason Garrett did).
5) Salary cap situation isn't near as bad as headlines make it seem - they always get under the cap without much trouble. They could have kept Ware if they really wanted him, but he wanted more than they thought he was worth at his age. Stephen Jones knows the cap will keep increasing every year, and has negotiated the contracts he has given with that in mind.
Obviously this hasn't shown on the field yet (mostly because the guys Parcell's drafted on defense are gone due to age or injury, and Wade/Jerry drafted so poorly for a 3 year stretch that their defense is completely depleted), but Stephen and Garrett definitely have a plan - will Garrett get to see it realized? At the end of the day Jerry could get fed up and wrest control back from Stephen and blow up all they have been building.
