This is going to go away and life will go on. Owners are making money hand over fist right now. So, unless TMZ sports has a video of Goodell jerking off to the Ray Rice tape, it doesn't matter.

I'm going to guess Goodell not going anywhere. NFL hiring former FBI director Robert Mueller to conduct an investigation into the Rice tape. Probably wouldn't let anyone near the building if they knew something fatal to the league's story was at risk of being found.

NFL also thrilled about Obama's ISIS speech pushing the Rice story down the list a spot on the news. Bombs away indeed.

Yeah I just can't imagine that Goodell actually knew they received a copy of the tape. There is no possible way he would think he could get away with covering that up. And really it doesn't even make any sense for him to do so. What would be the benefit to try and hide that if they really did have the tape? Just doesn't make any sense.

Yes, he is going to take a ton of shit for it. No, he won't lose his job.

I find it extraordinarily difficult to believe he will resign. I think you guys are overstating the pressure on this.

NFL hired an external investigator to push this down the road until it finally blows over. "What are you doing with Goodell?" / "Well we have to wait for the investigation to complete." Then in four months when we've all stopped giving a shit about the Rice saga the PI will say he can't say with 100% certainty Goodell saw the tape and we all go along with our lives.

I agree on the likelihood of him resigning being extremely low, but the pressure is real and immenseright now. This independent investigation is Rodger's life raft. As much arrogance and hubris Goodell and the NFL have accumulated in themselves at this point, even they know that the original investigators investigating the shortcomings in their own investigation would just serve up more ammunition for all of those screaming for blood. It will let the League trot out the "not going to comment on an ongoing investigation" deflection for the coming weeks/months until the emotions surrounding this whole thing die down. Meanwhile they have the former head of the same organization that most of their security staff have hailed from on their payroll conducting an "independent" inquiry. We can go ahead and spitball what his findings will conclude:

1) Some individual or handful of lower or mid level League executive(s) were negligent.
2) Some changes to the NFL's investigative process and protocols need to be made, such has having personnel specifically suited to specific types of off-field infractions, less reliance on law enforcement, broadening the definition of reliable sources for information, yadda yadda.
3) Divesting some of the authority regarding suspensions for off field issues from the office of Commissioner.
4) Goodell did nothing wrong beyond having some less that diligent staff in his employ.

The owners might go so far as to tell Rodger that for his own good going forward, his days as the formal judge, jury, jailor, parole board, and executioner are over. They'll set up some office of take up some of those responsibilities, that will nonetheless report to him so he will influence it anyway but it will give him cover should anything like this happen again. They'll roll out an assortment of domestic violence awareness programs to the tune of millions of dollars that they will never miss from their bottom line.

The reality is, they are all too aware of how captive their audience is and for all the uproar this has caused, people are still going to watch their games on tv, the stadiums will still be full, and the licensed merchandise will still move off the shelves. The sponsors know this to. The owners' pride has been temporarily wounded, but being able to still have their man in place after all the dust settles will make up for it.

Yeah, all they need to do is "investigate" until the next Brittney Spears crotch shot comes out and we will all forget about this.

The best thing about all this is I'll be getting josh Gordon and Wes welker on my fantasy teams. NFL wants this Ray Rice shit to go away so badly they'll push the new drug policy out and reverse bans for some good PR

It will, you see Vick on a team; don't you?
Big difference between Peta, and Females against domestic abuse. That is a world wide problem, and I seriously doubt the NFL will ever want to be associated with that.

If there was no tape, it's not a big deal. There is a tape tho, and the world saw it.
It really doesn't matter what the victim thinks.

Vick beat up dogs that were bred to fight anyway, in the publics eye not that big of a deal other then something to poke fun at.

Actually in dog fighting rings it is fairly common to find a meek/nice dog from a shelter and use it as a bait dog simply for your fighting dog to kill. I can only assume Vick did that as well. He's a deplorable human being as well. And he didn't just "beat up" dogs. He electrocuted and drowned them to death.

Vick actually did his time and has been stand up since. Rice seems to have lied to the NFL about his actions that night and the justice system failed because he was a NFL player.
