I never said that it was, that is the law's job as I stated.

However it seems that it is Goodell's job to see that he is appropriately punished within the ream of the NFL. So he gave a punishment, then increased the punishment to indefinitely but that isn't good enough in the eyes of (insert person here) and should have to resign.

Got it thanks.

Insinuating that you actually think Goodell SHOULD be the one handing out jail time instead of the law.

It's not that it isn't "good enough". It's that when given the evidence he gave Ray Rice a pass even though he spit in his wife's face and knocked her unconscious. After it was shown that his morally bankrupt decision was incorrect he then decided to correct the problem. It's like the tweet from Chris Rock said, Ray Rice isn't being punished for beating his wife, he's being punished for a video of him beating his wife going on the internet.

You should expect to get punished at work when you signed a CBA saying you'll be punished at work

The problem with Goodell and him needing to resign is he was incompetent in his duties, Rice didn't lie about what happened, Newsome who was in the meeting with Rice and Goodell has said Rice didn't lie and he was suspended two games. Once the video came out they changed their minds when it was clear without the video of what happened. In the media shit storm that followed Goodell lied about the league not having access to the video and it's entirely possible he lied about not seeing the video, that is why he should be fired.

I am actually saying the opposite. Goodell should have NOTHING to do with this what-so-ever. If he wants to punish Rice within the realm of the NFL that is his prerogative. If he doesn't that is also his prerogative.

It is the LAW's job to punish not Goodell but people are treating it like it's Goodell's job and if he doesn't do a good enough of a job at the punishment then they want him fired/resigned. If Goodell wants fire/suspend Rice that's fine, it's his prerogative not some national women's league.

National Football League player conduct controversy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

He made it his responsibility to punish players based on their conduct. So no it's not his PREROGATIVE if/how he should punish Ray Rice, it's his DUTY. He failed at his duty and then lied about it. That is why people want him fired, that and a whole shit load of other reasons.

It probably depends on the job. I work for the government and they have people whose entire job it is to scour the police reports to find employees. If I did something like this, I'd lose my job. Although, that's also probably more a function of losing my clearance.

When you're in a field that is highly publically visible (athlete, politics, television/movie personality, etc), you're damn right you can lose your job for doing something that reflects poorly on your employer.

ffs remember the guy at the Bills game last year drunkenly slid down the raid and landed on some random person?
HE was fired from his job for making them look stupid.

And back to the example...if his CEO basically made a press statement saying that he was an employee of their company, they saw the video, and were going to give him a week off. Then, let's say the board of that company, finds out that he was lying and they never saw the video, and the company policy should have been termination. The board is going to be pretty pissed at their CEO who lied to them. Had he just handled it internally or followed company policy and been honest about it - no harm, no foul. But a CEO lying in a public statement? Fuck that, you almost have no choice but to get rid of him.

Goodell clearly did the absolute minimum to "investigate" what Rice did, in the hopes of being able to keep a marketable young player in the league.

I'd be shocked if it turns out that he'd never seen the full tape, as he claims.

He might be getting railroaded a bit, but him resigning is the NFL's only way out of this PR nightmare.
