I actually wonder why the Cleveland Indians logo hasn't been the first thing to go. There's really no defending that one, it's a pretty awful caricature and clearly from more backwards days of sports logos.

I'm sure it's because interest in both baseball and the Cleveland Indians is nothing compared to football these days, but I feel like that one is far worse than the word "Redskins".

This.

Nobody is saying the name isn't offensive to some. On the flip side, it's not offensive to others. What people are arguing is the way the media and government are trying to force a privately owned company to change their name.
Washing N Words. Offensive to some, but not to all! Fine by me!

"We can't change the name because the Redskins have such a long and storied history of-" being the laughingstock of the entire NFL for the last 30 years.

Listen, I don't really give a shit if they change the name or not, but there is no question that it's offensive and racial. Why is anyone arguing otherwise?

Going to be hilarious to watch this swarm through all the other sports and all the way down to local kids sport team names. One more step to becoming a nation of pussified Political correctness.

Good time to go buy memorabilia though.

I'll answer that in an extremely convoluted way -

How often do you hear the term "Black skins"? Does not hearing it make it not racist?

If a tree falls in the woods...
You don't see black skin, but you see black people, colored people etc all the time. Hell they are used by official organizations and even a whole month dedicated to a certain group of people based on the color of their skin, that specifically uses the color to denote who.

Should change all those names too, since they have about the same amount of harmful intent as the redskins name.

Indeed, just like when college teams changed their names for the exact same reason and it obliterated sports in America. You can't even find sports on TV these days since that happened.

I'd bet if they called themselves the Washington Whiteskins people would be butthurt about that, too. This is dumb.

This is really hilarious considering the original team owner changed the name from Braves to Redskins because he was a huge racist. Fun fact - the Redskins were the last team to integrate. The league forced them to by threatening to take away their stadium.

This whole story just goes to show how football deprived we as a country are from February-September. Fucking a.
The ironic part is this has almost nothing to do with football. It was all a media concoction that started last year, and then a bunch of politicians decided to get involved. I'm pretty sure about 99.99% of football fans don't give a shit.

I know you were trying to be funny, but you should have said 20 years. 30 years encompasses a period where the Redskins were a fucking dynasty.

1983 - Super Bowl XVII - Won, vs Dolphins
1984 - Super Bowl XVIII - Lost, vs Raiders
1985 - Playoffs - Lost vs Bears (Super Bowl winning Bears)
1986 - Missed playoffs after LT broke Theismann's leg
1987 - NFC Championship - Lost, vs Giants (Super Bowl winning Giants)
1988 - Super Bowl XLIV - Won, vs Broncos
1989 - Missed playoffs (7-9)
1990 - Missed playoffs (10-6)
1991 - Divisional playoffs - Lost, vs Niners (Joe Montana Niners, btw)
1992 - Super Bowl XXVI - Won, vs Bills
1993 - Divisional playoffs - Lost, vs Niners (Montana's 2nd to last game)

I loved watching Riggins run like an angry bull. I wasn't much of a Theisman fan though, to be honest I always thought he was kind of a pussy. Until I saw LT break his leg. I still think he's a bit of a puss, but for different reasons.

Dynasty or not, the first Joe Gibbs era in the 80s/90s had more success than several franchises have in their entire histories. Not just the newer clubs, either...look at the Jets. It's been a long time since Joe Namath, eh?

The Redskins had one owner get old and start losing his grip on the team and then had the misfortune of being bought by a dope with a lot of money to spend. It took Snyder over a full decade to finally back away from his free agent idiocy every summer. This shit could happen to anyone, what if the Rooneys somehow lose the Steelers after enough of them get old and die? No way to tell which bored rich person will decide they want to own a football team. Snyder won't be the last, and it's not something a team can bounce back from quickly.

Eh? This has already made it's way all the way through the lower ranks. The professional teams are the last bastion of racism.
