Local radio is a no go for the Cardinals. Ron Wolfley is the worst color guy in the history of broadcasting. He does the preseason guys and I'm forced to watch the guys on mute.
The local Bengals guy Dave Lapham is excellent. I often times listen to the radio instead of the broadcasters for the Bengals games.

I pretty much loathe them all to different degrees, even Dan Fouts (he's terrible).

Collinsworth/Michaels are ok, I guess. I still think there's a large market for games broadcast without announcers. Just the stadium PA guy, the crowd and maybe some boom mics for the field would be awesome. I don't need some overpaid asshole in a suit telling me how bad the Chargers suck or whatever, and I think we've all watched more than enough football to not have to be force fed the analysis of the obvious. In most cases it seems like their broadcasting strategy is a wall of sound coming out of the booth as if they were getting paid by the word.

so... what announcers do you guys like??
This one's for Araysar.

I only get to do it twice a year, but living in Milwaukee, I get to put the Packers on the TV, put it on mute, and then turn on... the Chicago radio announcers.

Then I get to listen to their enthusiasm fade, the awkward pauses grow as the score gets out of hand, and then the dejected "Uhh, let's talk about the positives from today" post-game coverage.

Delicious.

Buck is boring as hell but I think that's the baseball upbringing. At least he doesn't really try to fill the silence with nonsense.

Lapham is awesome. He's the biggest Bengals fan in the world. Every time Dalton connects with Green deep or Bernard goes on a crazy run it's just "YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAH"!

Yeah I love that it feels like I'm at the stadium sitting next to the most knowledgable, biggest Bengals fan there. When big plays unfold he is just cheering and you can feel the high fives through the radio.

The local radio guys for the Bucs are awesome, especially Gene Deckerhoff (who also does radio for FSU).

I'm probably spoiled, but I grew up listening to Kevin Harlan and Len Dawson doing chiefs games on the radio. We'd always mute the TV and play the radio feed. Kevin Harlan is great(he mostly does NBA on tv now)

Yeah, WE have, I can watch at a noisy bar and not miss a beat. But for a lot of the general public on Sunday they want to hear someone talking about every play. The color guys can be good but like Grimm said most of them have some agenda they are going to harp on throughout the game. The worst is when it doesn't even turn out to be the case and they continue to hammer away at it anyway, makes me wonder if the network suits script in certain things for them to focus on.

RIP Sumemerall. I can't stand Joe Buck, he just can't call a good game and he's just annoying to listen to. Aikman isn't that bad, and I enjoy listening to him as long as it isn't a Giants vs. Cowboys game because he goes super homer then. I love the Sunday Night crew, hate the Monday night crew.

I wish Tim Ryan did east coast games.

I said that I think there's a market for it. Doesn't have to be the widely available network broadcast, but maybe an additional NFL Network channel. I think it'd be more popular than you'd think, it'd catch on (maybe even go to a more mainstream broadcast), and most of these idiots would be out of a job.

There used to be some Mexican dude (I say Mexican because he played up his accent a lot) who would live stream Charger games and get progressively more drunk/stoned throughout the game. He was funny as shit and didn't mess with the action by talking over it too much. That's pretty much the only style of commentary I can take these days.

I didn't skip, I watched it all. Got goosebumps again with the call and I really miss Kevin Harlan.

I really wish the "behind the offense" view would become more popular. I like it way more than the standard view. You see it for just a few seconds for some primetime games.

You see the qb throw to an open man. You have no idea if he was in a hole in the zone, the defender fell, jumped the wrong route, just got outran, etc. You only get a small part of what's really going on with the zoomed in sideline view

So they show it on a replay. If you need a play-by-play guy (very few of them actually give you the play-by-play while it's happening, anyway) to tell you what's going on then I don't know what sport you've been watching. All that extra analysis shit comes after the play during the replays, and you only need eyes to see wtf happened.

I agree. I like this view a lot but rarely see it.
