I had a similar reaction to the other 49er fans in this thread when I heard about the Chip Kelly hiring, but here's me trying to be optimistic.
1) There isn't anyone obviously better available.
2) If anyone can reform Kaepernick it's Kelly and there's no obvious blue-chip QB in the draft so at least we can avoid hitching our wagon to the star of a mediocre talent for the next 3-5 years just because we have a high pick.
3) It's an open question whether Kelly's failure in Philly was because of other teams figuring out how to counter his system or his ridiculous personnel decisions. If Baalke is still here then he won't have much control over personnel decisions so we can rule out one possibility and see if it was the other.
4) Most of the really good coaches in the NFL got fired from their first job, so maybe he has learned from his mistakes in Philly (might be wishful thinking here).
5) If the 49ers shit the bed again next year we might get rid of both Kelly and Baalke and be able to draft a good QB with our next high pick.
6) Whatever happens it will be entertaining and at least the 49ers will get mentioned regularly on television even if it's only for people to mock them.
There's your irrational fan optimism for the day.
